EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team won its third straight game in impressive fashion on Tuesday night, and in the process the Fighting Scots left head coach
Stan Swank within one win of his 500
th career victory. Edinboro handed Cheyney an 82-49 defeat at McComb Fieldhouse in a PSAC contest. The Fighting Scots improved to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the PSAC while Cheyney is now 1-8 and 1-3, respectively.
Lauren Hippo led the Scots with
17 points. Swank, the all-time leader in victories in the PSAC, will look for win number 500 on Wednesday night when Millersville visits McComb Fieldhouse.
Cheyney led just once in the contest at 3-2.
Aignee' Freeland's layup at the 17:36 mark gave the Fighting Scots the lead for good. Edinboro would build the lead to 35-22 at the half while limiting Cheyney to 27.3 percent shooting (9-of-33).
Edinboro opened the second half with a 22-6 run over the first six-and-a-half minutes to spoil any Cheyney comeback hopes. The burst started with four 3-pointers, as
Lauren Hippo and
Valerie Majewski each hit a pair. Edinboro would lead 57-28 at the 13:36 mark and the Lady Wolves never pulled closer than 26 points the rest of the way. The lead would balloon to as much as 35 points late in the contest.
The Fighting Scots shot a sizzling 64.0 percent from the floor (16-of-25) over the final twenty minutes, including 5-for-8 from beyond the 3-point line. Edinboro would end the game at 54.5 percent from the floor (30-of-55) and made 9-of-21 3-pointers. Cheyney, meanwhile, was limited to 27.7 percent (18-of-65) and was just 3-of-8 on 3-pointers.
Edinboro also held a large 46-32 lead on the glass, although Cheyney pulled down 18 offensive rebounds.
Hippo and Freeland were the lone Fighting Scots in double figures. Hippo continued her resurgence after a slow start. The junior swingman made 6-of-9 field goals, including 5-of-7 3-pointers, to finish with 17 points in just 22 minutes. Freeland added 12 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.
Laurel Lindsay dished out a
career-high 13 assists. Laurel Lindsay was limited to 8 points, but she dished out a career-high 13 assists while playing just 27 minutes. She entered the game tied for 12
th in Division II in assists per game. She moved into ninth place in career assists with 394.
The Fighting Scots received a huge boost off the bench from
Bri'ana Cook. The freshman forward had seen limited action and came in with just seven points and five rebounds in 28 minutes. Against Cheyney she played 14 minutes and contributed 8 points and 7 rebounds, making 3-of-4 field goals and both of her free throw attempts.
Kyra Hines-Allen was the player in double digits for Cheyney, finishing with 19 points. No one else scored more than seven points.
