Fighting Scots Host Thiel Tuesday in Season's Final Non-Conference Matchup

EDINBORO, Pa. (December 29, 2014) – The Edinboro men's basketball team hosts Thiel Tuesday night in the Fighting Scots' final non-conference contest of the season. Game time against the Tomcats is set for 7 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse. Edinboro enters the contest with an even 5-5 overall record and a 2-4 mark in PSAC West play, while Thiel owns 4-5 and 2-1 ledgers, respectively.

12/20/14 - Shippensburg 57, Edinboro 53 | BOX SCORE | In a game which featured 18 lead changes and nine ties, Edinboro fell by a score of 57-53 to host Shippensburg in a PSAC Crossover contest at Heiges Field House in Shippensburg, Pa. With 11 seconds remaining in the game, Henri Wade-Chatman knocked down a pair of free throws to knot the game at 53-53. On the next Shippensburg possession, Tommy Scales committed a foul on Dylan Edgar, sending him to the free throw line. Edgar, a 6'10'' center who was 0 for 3 from the charity stripe up to that point, made both free throws to give the Raiders a 55-53 lead with four seconds to play. With a chance to win or tie the contest, Jaymon Mason was called for an offensive foul with two seconds to play, turning the ball back over to Shippensburg. After an Edinboro foul, Abe Massaley dropped in a pair of free throws to seal the 57-53 victory for the Raiders. Wade-Chatman was the only Fighting Scot to score in double-figures, leading Edinboro with 12 points. Tommy Scales tallied eight points and pulled down a team-high nine boards.

12/14/14 - Thiel 61, Washington & Jefferson 53 | BOX SCORE | Thiel improved to 2-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play with a 61-53 victory over host Washington & Jefferson on Sunday, December 14. After the Presidents took their largest lead of the night of nine points at 25-16 with 6:24 to play in the first half, the Tomcats closed the opening period on a 9-0 run to even the game at 25-25 at the half. The two teams traded the lead for the first seven minutes of the second half, before Eric Mallinger's layup with 12:51 to play gave Thiel the lead for good, as the Tomcats would build their advantage to as many as eight points. Bess led Thiel with 16 points and four assists to go along with six rebounds and three steals. Josh Johnson and Eric Mallinger chipped in 11 points each and grabbed seven and six rebounds, respectively. Luke Kochka added seven points and six rebounds off the bench. The Tomcats scored 26 points off 22 Washington & Jefferson turnovers in the game.

The Edinboro-Thiel Series
Edinboro leads 31-10: The Fighting Scots own a 31-10 advantage in the teams' all-time series dating back to the 1935-36 campaign. Edinboro has claimed 14 straight victories against the Tomcats, with Thiel's last win against the Fighting Scots coming during the 1959-60 season. 
 
The Last Meeting
11/11/13 – Edinboro 66, Thiel 48 | BOX SCORE | The Pat Cleary Era opened up successfully as Edinboro debuted in 2013-14 with a 66-48 win over Thiel at McComb Fieldhouse. Cleary's team jumped out to a 17-2 lead after less than nine minutes into the game. All told, Thiel would make just one of its first 14 shots from the floor, along with committing seven turnovers. The lead would grow to 22 points late in the first half before Edinboro settled for a 37-17 lead at the half. The Fighting Scots' advantage grew to as many as 26 points at 47-21 early in the second half, but after that the play became sloppy. Edinboro would have a stretch of almost six minutes without a point, as the lead shrunk from 55-31 with 9:01 to play to 55-37 at the 4:42 mark. Alex Moore's jumper with 3:02 to play ended the drought. Three players scored in double figures for the Fighting Scots, with Bryan Theriot contributing 12 points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes, and Jonny Marsh adding 12 points. Henri Wade-Chatman tallied 11 points. Xavier Churnac pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds. Khari Bess led Thiel with 13 points, while Josh Johnson was also in double figures with 10 markers.

Edinboro: Henri Wade-Chatman | G | 6-2 | 177 | Jr. | Pittsburgh, Pa. – Wade-Chatman ranks second in the PSAC in scoring at 18.6 points per game. The 6'2'' guard has scored in double-figures in all 10 of the Fighting Scots contests this season, including four games of 20 points or more. Additionally, he has scored at least 10 points in 21 of 23 contests dating back to last season. The Pittsburgh native is tied for the conference lead with 3.0 3-point field goals per game while ranking fifth in the league shooting 46.2 percent from behind the arc. He also sits 11th in the PSAC in field goal percentage at 46.4 percent.
 
Thiel: Khari Bess | G | 6-1 | Jr. | Waldorf, Md. – Bess paces the Tomcats and ranks 14th in the PAC in scoring at 11.6 points per game, while pacing the conference with 4.3 assists per contest. A 6'1'' guard, he also sits second in the league with 2.7 steals per game. Bess has scored in double-figures in seven of nine games this season, including a season-high 17-point performance against Allegheny. He dished out a season-high nine assists to go along with 12 points in Thiel's 76-69 overtime victory over Bethany.
