(February 12, 2014) – The Edinboro men's basketball team could not overcome a 14-point halftime deficit and dropped a 71-54 decision to Gannon in a PSAC West contest on Wednesday night at the Hammermill Center. The Golden Knights have now won four games in a row and nine of their last ten. The Fighting Scots fall to 2-10 in the conference and 9-13 overall, while Gannon improves to 10-3 in league play and 15-8 on the season.
Edinboro fell victim to a stingy Golden Knight defense, as Gannon came into the game ranked third in Division II in scoring defense, limiting opponents to 59.6 points per game. The Fighting Scots tied a season-low with 54 total points. Edinboro also tallied 54 points against Slippery Rock on January 11.
Trailing 41-19 with 2:23 remaining in the opening period, the Fighting Scots used an 8-0 run capped off by a 3-pointer by
brought Edinboro within five points at 20-15 with just over ten minutes to play in the opening period.
The Knights answered with a 21-4 run over the next eight minutes to take a 22-point lead, 41-29 with 2:23 to play in the half. The Fighting Scots surrendered six of their 17 turnovers during the run.
Gannon made 25 of 59 (.424) shots from the floor, including six of ten (.600) attempts from behind the arc, while Edinboro shot 20 of 54 (.370) from the field and made just two of ten (.200) tries from long range.
The Golden Knights outdueled the Scots in the rebounding column by a total of 40-27.
Both teams shot efficiently from the free throw line, with the Golden Knights connecting on 15 of 16 free throws and Edinboro making 12 of 13 shots from the charity stripe.
Edinboro returns to action on Saturday, February 15 to host Mercyhurst. Tip-off against the Lakers is set for 3 p.m. from McComb Fieldhouse.
