(February 19, 2014) – A cold-shooting second half plagued the Edinboro men's basketball team on Wednesday night at Slippery Rock, as the Fighting Scots dropped a 79-66 decision to The Rock in PSAC West action at Morrow Fieldhouse in Slippery Rock, PA. Edinboro falls to 9-15 on the season and 2-12 in PSAC West play, while Slippery Rock boosts its record to 18-8 overall and 9-5 in the conference.
The Fighting Scots held a 40-35 halftime lead, before The Rock opened the half on a 20-5 run to gain a 55-45 advantage with 12:08 to play in the game.
Edinboro started the half making just 1 of 13 (7.7 percent) field goal attempts.
After The Rock extended its lead to 12 midway through the second half, a
knocked down a 3-pointer and
Xavier Churnac connected on a pair of free throws.
The Rock responded with a 13-4 run to cut the Edinboro advantage to 21-20 at the 10:44 mark of the opening period.
The Scots then used a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to build a 33-22 lead, capped off by a
Sam Sealy-James dunk.
The hosts constructed a 12-2 run of their own to shrink the Fighting Scot lead to 35-34 with 3:11 to play in the half.
A Marsh 3-pointer and Theriot jumper to end the half gave Edinboro a 40-35 advantage at the break.
Slippery Rock, who came into the game with the top rebounding margin the PSAC at +10.4 rebounds per game, outdueled the Fighting Scots on the glass by a total of 43-32 boards.
Edinboro garnered 18 points off The Rock's 14 turnovers, while Slippery Rock converted just eight points off turnovers.
The Rock's bench outscored the Fighting Scot reserves 30-9 for the game.
Edinboro travels to Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday, February 22 to battle the 12th-ranked Crimson Hawks. The contest marks the final road game of the season for the Fighting Scots. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. from the Kovalchick Complex.
