Edinboro dropped a close decision to visiting 15th-ranked Indiana (Pa.), 69-66 at McComb Fieldhouse, marking the fourth straight contest between the teams in which the Fighting Scots have taken the Crimson Hawks down to the wire. IUP topped Edinboro in all three meetings last season, but needed overtime to do so in two of those games. In this year's matchup, the Fighting Scots held a 61-60 advantage with 2:05 left in the contest after
Jonny Marsh connected on a pair of free throws. The Crimson Hawks scored nine straight points, knocking down seven of seven free throws to take a 69-61 lead, an advantage that IUP would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest.
Alex Moore notched his first double-double of the season, posting 11 points and career-high 12 rebounds for the Scots.
Xavier Churnac and
Henri Wade-Chatman paced the Fighting Scots with 15 points each, while
Jonny Marsh dropped in 10 markers off the bench.
Bryan Theriot pulled down ten rebounds, but failed to reach double-figure points for the first time all season with five markers. Keita led the Crimson Hawks with a game-high 28 points on 10 of 18 shooting. Devante Chance followed with 14 markers. IUP came into the game as the top-ranked scoring defense in Division II, limiting opponents to 57.4 points per game. Edinboro eclipsed this mark, scoring 66 points against the stifling Crimson Hawk defense. While the Fighting Scots surrendered just three more turnovers than IUP, the Crimson Hawks garnered 20 points off Edinboro's 15 turnovers, while the Scots scored seven markers off IUP's 12 turnovers on the night. IUP outshot Edinboro, 42.6 percent (26 of 61) to 35.3 percent (24 of 68).

Pat Cleary (
Edinboro '99) is in his first year as head coach of the Fighting Scots, taking over for his predecessor Greg Walcavich, who spent 24 years at the helm of the Edinboro program. Cleary previously worked as an assistant under Walcavich for 16 years, first as a student aide before becoming a full-time assistant coach. He is credited for recruiting many of Edinboro's top contributors in recent years. The first-year head coach takes over a team that finished 18-10 a year ago and reached the PSAC Tournament Semifinals. Cleary has led the Fighting Scots to a 9-15 record this season.

Joe Lombardi (Youngstown State '81) took over at IUP in 2006-07 with the program under NCAA probation and has led the Crimson Hawks to a 170-68 record during his eight seasons. The former assistant at Pittsburgh has led IUP to four straight PSAC regular season titles and three of the last four PSAC Championships. The Crimson Hawks have made five straight appearances to the NCAA Tournament under Lombardi. He enjoyed his finest season in 2009-10, as the Crimson Hawks came within one win of the NCAA Division II national championship. IUP fell to Cal Poly Pomona in the championship game. Lombardi was named the PSAC West Coach of the Year and was selected the Basketball Times Division II National Coach of the Year that season. He led the Crimson Hawks to a 26-6 record, a PSAC Tournament Championship, and an NCAA Tournament berth last season. IUP fell to top-ranked West Liberty in the NCAA Atlantic Regional final, 86-63.

Bryan Theriot (C, 6-9, Sr.) earned first team All-PSAC West accolades a year ago after averaging 18.1 ppg. and 8.9 rpg. Was named a preseason All-PSAC choice. Shot 55.4 percent from the floor and 87.2 percent at the line. He was named the PSAC West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 12, after averaging 18.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in two contests. He leads the team in scoring at 17.6 points per contest, also ranks fifth in scoring average in the PSAC. He is fourth in the league in rebounding average at 8.0 boards per game, and third in the conference in field goal percentage at 59.5 percent (147 of 247). The senior ranks 12th in school history with 1,329 career points and 13th with 659 career rebounds. Theriot now holds the career record for free throws made with 393. He also sits at second all-time in career field goal percentage, shooting 59.0 percent from the field for his career (467 of 792). Theriot is now tied for 3rd in school history in free throws made in a season with 128.

Henri Wade-Chatman (G, 6-2, So.) is a first-year player for the Fighting Scots after transferring from Community College of Allegheny County. He had a team-high 22 points vs. Mercyhurst in the teams' first meeting on 9 of 14 shooting. Wade-Chatman has scored in double-figures in 9 of last 11 games and is the team's third-leading scorer at 12.7 points per game. Known as "Booka" to his teammates, Wade-Chatman is also team leader in steals with 22. He dished out a game-high eight assists with no turnovers vs. Clarion, while ranking fourth in the PSAC in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.9 (81/41), and eighth in the league in assists per game at 3.4. He scored 17 points in the win over California, including a game-winning jumper with 3.1 seconds remaining. He has dished out 28 assists in the last five games while surrendering just seven turnovers.
IUP#10 Marcel Souberbielle (F, 6-8, Sr.) Souberbielle, a preseason All-PSAC West selection, paces the Crimson Hawks and ranks 13th in the league in scoring average at 15.7 points per game. The senior forward also ranks 11th in the PSAC in field goal percentage at 47.5 percent and ninth in free throw percentage at 78.8 percent. He has scored in double-figures in six of the last seven contests, including a 21-point output against Gannon. The Fighting Scots held Souberbielle to six points in the teams' last meeting.
#22 Matias Keita (G, 6-5, Sr.) Keita was another preseason All-PSAC West selection for the Hawks after earning first-team All-PSAC West honors last season. He is IUP's second-leading scorer at 15.4 points per game. The Gonzaga transfer is in his second season with the Hawks after playing two seasons for the Bulldogs under head coach Mark Few, seeing action in 39 career games. He ranks 14th in the PSAC in scoring average and ninth in field goal percentage, shooting 49.0 percent on the season. Keita dropped in a game-high 28 points against the Scots earlier this season.
THE GAME STORIES• Edinboro comes into the Indiana (Pa.) game following a 79-66 road loss at Slippery Rock on Wednesday night to fall to 2-12 in PSAC West play and 9-15 overall. The game at IUP marks the final road contest of the 2013-14 campaign for the Scots. Edinboro is eliminated from the playoff chase, having now lost three straight contests. Five of six spots in both the Eastern and Western Divisions for the PSAC Tournament have been solidified, with one remaining spot in each division.
• With nine wins this season, the Fighting Scots need two wins to avoid its fewest win total since 2009-10, when Edinboro posted an 11-16 record. The nine wins are the fewest wins since the 1980-81 season, when the Fighting Scots tallied seven victories.
• IUP, ranked 12th in the latest NABC Division II Top 25, enters the game against Edinboro with an 11-3 mark in PSAC West play and a 21-3 record on the season, good for second place in the Western Division standings. The Crimson Hawks trail division-leading Gannon by a half game with two contests left on IUP's schedule. However, the Golden Knights topped the Hawks in both meetings this season. Gannon has clinched a first round bye in the PSAC Tournament. IUP is coming off a crucial 74-66 victory over Mercyhurst, who sits third in the PSAC West standings. The Crimson Hawks are also ranked third in the NCAA Atlantic Regional rankings, behind West Liberty and East Stroudsburg.
•The Fighting Scots cap a difficult stretch of games against four of the top scoring defenses in the country with the IUP matchup. The Crimson Hawks pace the PSAC and rank second in Division II in scoring defense, limiting opponents to 58.7 points per game. Edinboro faced Gannon and Meryhurst, who ranked third and fifth in Division II, respectively. Slippery Rock was ninth in the nation in this statistic coming into the game against the Scots.
•The Crimson Hawks have claimed the last 11 games against the Scots, but Edinboro has taken IUP down to the wire in four straight games dating back to last season. The Hawks have won the last two meetings by a combined five points, with an 89-87 victory in overtime in the PSAC Tournament quarterfinals last season, and a 69-66 defeat of the Scots earlier this season.

Bryan Theriot is now tied for third in Edinboro history in free throws made in a season with 128. He tied Dwayne Butler (1997-98) and Derek Walton (1990-91). Theriot needs two free throws to eclipse his own total of 129 free throws made from last season, and 12 to pass Billy Wade, who made 139 free throws during the 1989-90 campaign.The 6'9'' center continues to climb the ranks of several career records, after setting the record for most career free throws made. His total now sits at 393.
•With 12 points against Slippery Rock,
Jonny Marsh scored in double-figures for the first time in five games. The Fighting Scots' second-leading scorer at 14.0 points per game had not eclipsed 10-or-more points since tallying 11 markers against Clarion on January 25. The Bronx, NY native scored in double-figures in 17 of 18 games to start the season.
