Box Score (New/Sortable Format) GREENSBURG, PA (February 5, 2014) – The Edinboro men's basketball team fell on the road to Seton Hill by a score of 73-61 in a PSAC West game on Wednesday night at Salvitti Gymnasium in Greensburg, PA. After the Fighting Scots cut the Griffin lead to three at 59-56 with 6:27 to play in the game, Seton Hill outscored Edinboro 14-5 for the remainder of the contest to close out the victory. The Fighting Scots drop to 1-9 in PSAC West play and 8-12 overall, while the Griffins improve to 5-6 in the conference and 13-8 on the season.
Trailing 38-31 at the break, Edinboro opened the second half on a 12-6 capped off by a
Jonny Marsh three-pointer, shrinking the deficit to one at 44-43 at the 15:17 mark.
The Griffins responded with a 9-1 run to build their lead to 53-44 with just under 11 minutes remaining.
Johnathan Logan nailed a shot from behind the arc and
Alex Moore converted on a dunk on consecutive possessions to bring the Scots within three, 59-56 with 6:27 remaining, before Seton Hill closed out the contest on a 14-5 run to seal the win.
The Griffins built their lead to as many as 13 with 1:58 left in the contest when Oliver McGlade converted an old-fashioned three-point play.
Henri Wade-Chatman and
Bryan Theriot each tallied 15 points for Edinboro.
Theriot made three of four shots from the charity stripe, claiming the Edinboro career record for free throws made with 367. The 6'9'' senior moved into 13th place among Edinboro career point leaders with 1,257 points.
Theriot also shot six of ten from the floor and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. 12 of Wade-Chatman's 15 points came in the opening half.
Malachi Leonard led all scorers with 21 points for Seton Hill to go along with a team-high eight rebounds. Kameron Taylor dropped in 18 markers on six of eight shooting for the night. Oliver McGlade added 12 points while Noah Davis chipped in 11 points off the bench.
After the Griffins jumped out to an early lead, a Moore three-pointer gave the Fighting Scots their first lead of the night at 13-11 at the 14:39 mark in the first half.
The two teams traded baskets on the next few possessions, before Wade-Chatman made a layup to put the Scots up 17-15 with 13:27 left in the half. Seton Hill then used a 7-0 run to take a 22-17 lead with 11:07 remaining in the opening period.
Edinboro answered with five straight points of its own to knot the game at 22 with just under nine minutes to play on a
Xavier Churnac jumper.
Seton Hill ended the half on a 16-9 run, and never relinquished its lead for the remainder of the contest.
The Griffins outshot the Fighting Scots, 55.3 percent (26 of 47) to 39.7 percent (23 of 58) for the game. Edinboro outdueled Seton Hill on the glass, 32-30. The Fighting Scots pulled down 10 offensive rebounds.
Edinboro returns home to face California (Pa.) on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse. The Vulcans are coming off a 56-53 defeat against Mercyhurst.
