Bryan Theriot's flawless shooting line was not enough to lift the visiting Fighting Scots to a victory at California (Pa.), as the Vulcans topped Edinboro by a score of 70-60 at the Convocation Center. Theriot shot a perfect six of six from the field and connected on all 10 of his free throw attempts in the game, totaling a game-high 22 points.
Henri Wade-Chatman drained a three-pointer to bring Edinboro within one, at 41-40 with 12:33 to play in the contest. Arman Marks then connected on a three-pointer on the other to end to regain a two-possession lead, 44-40 with just over 12 minutes remaining. Cal did not let its lead descend below four points for the next nine minutes, as Tynell Fortune hit a free throw with 2:32 left in the game to give the Vulcans their largest advantage of the night, 61-51. The Fighting Scots did not throw in the towel, as
Jonny Marsh and Theriot poured in two baskets each to narrow the Cal lead to 65-60 with 37 seconds to play. Following an Alonzo Murphy dunk, Marsh hit another three-pointer to make the score 68-63. Jake Jacubec then made the first of two throws to extend the margin to 70-63. Marsh nailed a jumper to cut the deficit to 68-65 with three seconds remaining, but Fortune connected on a pair of free throws to seal the 70-65 win for the Vulcans. Marsh scored 10 of his 21 points in the final 2:25, but the Scots' comeback fell short despite the junior guard's late efforts. He also added four assists for the game. Theriot posted a team-high seven rebounds, while
Alex Moore added six boards off the bench. Five Vulcans reached double-digit points, paced by Fortune's 17 markers. Marks and Chris Williams each added 11 points apiece for Cal. Williams also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Edinboro shot an impressive 68.0 percent from the floor in the second half (13 of 19), and 52.8 percent for the game (19 of 36), while the Vulcans shot 40.0 percent for the contest (24 of 60). Cal outrebounded the Scots for the game by a margin of 37-27. Cal committed only seven turnovers on the evening, garnering 22 points off Edinboro's 14 turnovers.

Edinboro '99) is in his first year as head coach of the Fighting Scots, taking over for his predecessor Greg Walcavich, who spent 24 years at the helm of the Edinboro program. Cleary previously worked as an assistant under Walcavich for 16 years, first as a student aide before becoming a full-time assistant coach. He is credited for recruiting many of Edinboro's top contributors in recent years. The first-year head coach takes over a team that finished 18-10 a year ago and reached the PSAC Tournament Semifinals. Cleary has led the Fighting Scots to an 8-12 record so far this season.

Bill Brown is in his 18th year in charge of the Vulcans, showing a record of 342-172 record during that period. Brown led California (Pa.) to a 12-15 mark last season and an 11-11 record in PSAC play. He ranks as the Vulcans' all-time winningest coach thanks to eight 2o-win campaigns. Brown has led Cal to 12 appearances in the PSAC?Tournament, highlighted by league titles in 1999 and 2008. In 27 years as a head coach at Cal, Sacramento State and Kenyon, he owns a 458-289 record with eight NCAA Tournament appearances. The 2007 and 2008 NABC Regional Coach of the Year and five-time PSAC West Coach of the Year, Brown has also served as an assistant coach at Ohio, Kent State and Arkansas. Brown hired current VCU head coach Shaka Smart as a graduate assistant at Cal. Smart led VCU to a Final Four appearance in 2011.
PLAYERS TO WATCHEdinboroBryan Theriot (C, 6-9, Sr.) earned first team All-PSAC West accolades a year ago after averaging 18.1 ppg. and 8.9 rpg. Was named a preseason All-PSAC choice. Shot 55.4 percent from the floor and 87.2 percent at the line. He was named the PSAC West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 12, after averaging 18.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in two contests. He leads the team in scoring at 17.6 points per contest, also ranks sixth in scoring average in the PSAC. He is fifth in the league in rebounding average at 8.3 boards per game, and second in the conference in field goal percentage at 59.9 percent (124 of 207). The senior ranks 13th in school history with 1,257 career points and 18th with 631 career rebounds. Theriot set the career record for free throws made with 367 in the Scots' last game at Seton Hill. He also sits at second all-time in career field goal percentage, shooting 59.0 percent from the field for his career (444 of 752).
Henri Wade-Chatman (G, 6-2, So.) is a first-year player for the Fighting Scots after transferring from Community College of Allegheny County. He had a team-high 22 points vs. Mercyhurst on 9 of 14 shooting. Wade-Chatman is averaging 14.7 ppg. in the Scots' last seven contests and is the team's third-leading scorer at 12.7 points per game. Known as "Booka" to his teammates, Wade-Chatman is also team leader in steals with 20. He dished out a game-high eight assists with no turnovers vs. Clarion, while ranking fourth in the PSAC in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.9 (68/36), and ninth in the league in assists per game at 3.4. He scored 15 points against Seton Hill in the last game. He has recorded 25 assists with just nine turnovers in the last seven games.
California (Pa.)#23 Alonzo Murphy (F, 6-8, Jr.) Murphy is the Vulcans' leading rebounder at 6.3 boards per game and second-leading scorer at 10.6 points per contest. He also paces California (Pa.) shooting 44.6 percent from the field, and leads the team with 25 blocks on the season (1.2 bpg.). Murphy has scored in double-figures in just one of the last five games, after scoring double-figures in the previous six contests. The 6'8'' junior tallied 10 points and pulled down two rebounds in the last game against Edinboro.
#5 Jake Jacubec (G, 6-0,So.) Jacubec comes in as the Vulcans' leader in assists with 42 and 3-point field goals at 35 of 98 on the season. He is also Cal's third-leading scorer at 10.2 points per game. He has scored in double-figures in 13 of the Vulcans' 21 contests this season. Jacubec scored a season-high 21 points in a 68-62 win at Kutztown on January 4, connecting on 8 of 12 shots from the floor, including four of six shots from behind the arc. He dropped in 10 markers earlier this season against the Fighting Scots.
THE GAME STORIES• Edinboro is coming off a 73-61 loss at Seton Hill on Wednesday to fall to 1-9 in PSAC play and 8-12 overall on the season.
Bryan Theriot made three of four shots from the charity stripe in the loss, claiming the Edinboro career record for free throws made with 367. The 6'9'' senior also moved into 13th place among Edinboro career point leaders with 1,257 points.
• California enters Saturday's game following a 63-56 loss against Mercyhurst on Wednesday night. The Vulcans sport a 9-12 overall mark and a 4-7 ledger in PSAC West play, good for seventh place in the standings.
• With six PSAC West contests remaining on the schedule, the Fighting Scots sit in ninth place at 1-9 in the conference. The top six teams from each PSAC division qualify for the conference tournament. Four of Edinboro's remaining games are against the top four teams in the standings. With two losses each to UPJ and Seton Hill, who sit at fifth and sixth place, respectively, the Scots must put together a winning streak to keep their playoff hopes alive.
• The Vulcans have dropped three of their last four contests, with their lone win coming against Gannon, 62-59, after winning four of their previous five games. The Vulcans are the only team to beat both IUP and Gannon this season.
• Cal comes in as the 17th-ranked scoring offense in the 18-team PSAC at 62.6 points per game. However, they are limiting opponents to 65.1 points per contest, the fifth-best mark in the PSAC.

Henri Wade-Chatman continues his strong stretch, scoring in double-figures for the sixth time in seven games with 15 markers against Seton Hill on Wednesday night. The 6'2'' sophomore is averaging 14.7 points per game during those games, including 22 points at Mercyhurst and 19 against Pitt-Johnstown. He has also dished out 25 assists while committing only nine turnovers in those games. Wade-Chatman is the Scots' third-leading scorer at 12.7 points per game, while also ranking fourth in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.9 (68/36).
• After shooting six of ten from the field against Seton Hill,
Bryan Theriot has now made at least 50.0 percent of his attempts from the floor in 19 of 20 contests this season. Theriot ranks second in the PSAC in field goal percentage at 59.9 percent on the season.
• The Fighting Scots were picked to finish eighth in the Western Division while Cal was picked to finish fourth in the PSAC West in the conference preseason poll.
