Edinboro Explodes for 28 Runs, 28 Hits In Two-Game Sweep of Coker

Shelby Proctor drove in five runs on the day for the Scots.

(March 17, 2014) The Fighting Scot softball team collected a total 28 base hits and plated 28 runs in a doubleheader sweep of host Coker College on Monday afternoon in Hartsville, SC. Edinboro used a 14-run first inning to top the Cobras 18-9 in game one, before earning a come-from-behind 10-5 victory in the second game. The Fighting Scots improve to 4-6 on the season with the pair of wins, while the Cobras dropped to 12-11.

Edinboro broke the game open in the first inning, scoring 14 runs on seven hits in the top of the frame. After the first five hitters in the Scots' lineup walked to start the inning,

, who led off the inning with a single. Linder drove in a run on a fielder's choice in the inning, as well.

After a scoreless third inning, Proctor's RBI single in the top of the fourth knotted the game at three. Struebing followed with a run-scoring single to left field to give the Fighting Scots their first lead of the game at 4-3 with two outs in the inning.

Edinboro was not done there, as Brooke Callaghan cracked a three-run homerun to right field, extending the Fighting Scot advantage to 7-3. The four-bagger was the first of Callaghan's career.

The Cobras cut the Edinboro lead to 7-5 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, before the Fighting Scots answered with three runs in the top of the fifth with a Cosgrove RBI double and Payne two-run single.

Neither team pushed a run across in the sixth and final inning, as the game was shortened due to rain.
Struebing paced Edinboro at the plate going 4-for-4 on the day with two RBI.

Cosgrove, Payne, Callaghan, and Tighe added two hits apiece, with Callaghan driving in three runs and Payne collecting two RBI.

Kalet Lenart (2-3) earned the win for the Fighting Scots, working 2.1 innings and allowing no runs on one hit with two strikeouts.

Edinboro travels to Charlotte to take on Johnson C. Smith in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 19. The games are set to begin at 1 and 3 p.m. The twinbill was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but pushed back due to weather conditions.
