Edinboro Falls To Local PSAC Foe Mercyhurst, 9-0

ERIE, Pa. (April 10, 2014) - The Edinboro women's tennis team dropped a PSAC contest to local rival Mercyhurst by a score of 9-0 on Thursday afternoon at Penn State-Behrend. The Fighting Scots move to 9-11 on the season and 1-4 in PSAC play with the loss, while the Lakers improve to 10-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Mercyhurst sits fifth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Atlantic Regional Rankings.

Julia Hellstern lost another tightly-contested match in three sets by scores of 1-6, 7-5, and 10-7 to Mercyhurst's Courtney Thompson. This marks the second straight match in which Hellstern was edged in three sets by a regionally-ranked opponent, as Thompson came into the match ranked 20th in the latest ITA Atlantic Regional Singles Rankings.

The duo of Megan Cowling and Lydia Browne scored six points in doubles competition against Katelyn Caniford and Taylor Wedlake, but the Edinboro tandem dropped the dual by a score of 8-6.

The Fighting Scots return to action tomorrow, Friday, April 11 in their final PSAC match of the season, hosting Seton Hill at 3:30 p.m.
