WILLIAMSVILLE, NY (April 14, 2014) - The Edinboro women's tennis team concluded the 2013-14 campaign on a strong note, topping non-conference opponent Daemen by a score of 9-0 on Monday afternoon at the Park Country Club in Williamsville, NY. The Fighting Scots close the season with an 11-12 record, while the Wildcats fell to 6-14.
Oranza Carrillo captured her team-high 21st victory with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at no. 1 singles for Edinboro. Carrillo finished the season with a 21-7 mark in singles competition, topping her win total of 18 victories from last season.
Julia Hellstern capped a successful first season with the Fighting Scots with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the no. 2 singles position, improving to 12-3 on the season.
RyAnne' Baldwin collected a 7-5, 6-2 win to boost her record to 14-13 for the campaign.
Nevena Kulina (10-13) and
Megan Cowling (12-11) each blanked their opponents by identical scores of 6-0, 6-0 at the no. 4 and 5 singles spots, respectively.
Sydney Rice rounded out singles play for Edinboro with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
The Fighting Scots outscored Daemen 24-1 in doubles competition, with the duos of Carrillo and
Raquel Holiday, Hellstern and Baldwin, as well as Cowling and
Lydia Browne all picking up wins.
