Box Score (New/Sortable Format) 2 April 16, 2014 (INDIANA, Pa.) – The Edinboro softball team dropped a pair of PSAC West road contests to host Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday afternoon by scores of 9-3 and 11-3 at Podbielski Field in Indiana, PA. The Fighting Scots move to 10-16 on the season and 5-9 in PSAC West play, while the Crimson Hawks improve to 18-10 overall and 11-5 in the conference after completing the season sweep of Edinboro.
In the first game of the twinbill,
used a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position, allowing Hyland to deliver a two-run double to right center field, scoring Callaghan and Struebing. Hyland drove in her first and second career RBI on the play.
Two batters later, Hyland scored on a wild pitch, giving Edinboro 3-0 lead.
The Crimson Hawks answered with a big third inning, using five base hits and an Edinboro error to take a 5-3 lead heading into the fourth frame.
IUP added three runs in the fifth and tacked on three more in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn an 11-3 PSAC West victory. The Crimson Hawks held the Fighting Scots to three hits after the third inning.
Kalet Lenart was saddled with the loss for Edinboro, tossing four innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits. Lenart struck out two batters and walked three in the ball game.
Amanda Spindler improved to 8-2 on the season with the win, allowing three runs on five hits in 5.1 innings of work. She fanned eight hitters and walked five for the Crimson Hawks.
Brenna Cosgrove posted her tenth multi-hit game for Edinboro, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Hyland went 1-for-2 at the plate with her first pair of RBI for her career.
The Fighting Scots return to action tomorrow, April 17, traveling to Clarion to resume a PSAC West doubleheader suspended on Monday, April 14 during the second inning of game one due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The twinbill was rescheduled to tomorrow, with the first game resuming at 2:30 p.m., followed by the second half of the conference doubleheader. The Fighting Scots hold a 1-0 lead in the game. Edinboro will have the bases loaded with one out in the top of the second inning to begin the contest.
