(April 17, 2014) – The Edinboro softball team outscored host Clarion 18-2 in a pair of PSAC West contests on Thursday afternoon to cap a four-game sweep of the Golden Eagles in Clarion, Pa. The Fighting Scots defeated Clarion by identical scores of 9-1. Edinboro boosts its record to 12-16 on the season and 7-9 in PSAC West play. The Golden Eagles fall to 1-20 and 0-14 in the conference.
The Fighting Scots' wins over Clarion clinched the first four-game PSAC sweep of a team since Edinboro topped Slippery Rock in all four meetings during the 2012 season.
The first game of the doubleheader resumed today in the second inning after heavy rain forced the postponement of the contest on Monday, April 14. The Fighting Scots started today's game with a 1-0 lead and the bases loaded with one out in the top of the second frame.
Edinboro notched 13 hits in the first game, tying for the second most base knocks in a game on the season for the Fighting Scots. Edinboro also recorded 13 hits in the second game of a doubleheader at Coker on March 17, after poking a season-high 15 hits against the same Cobras in the first game of the twinbill.
The 13 hits marks the most for the Fighting Scots in a PSAC contest since Edinboro produced 14 hits last season against Mercyhurst.

Samantha Weaver limited the Golden Eagles to just three hits in the final three innings, helping Edinboro earn its seventh PSAC win on the season.
Weaver (2-6) tossed all six innings for the Scots, allowing one run on eight hits. The freshman struck out two and did not walk a single batter.
Chelsea Zola (0-3) suffered the loss for Clarion, allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits while walking two.
In the second game, the Fighting Scots gained an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Cosgrove scored on a Golden Eagle error.
Clarion answered with a run in the bottom of the first to knot the game at 1-1, before Mason scored on another error in the top of the second to give Edinboro a 2-1 lead.
Hyland continued a strong stretch at the plate in the top of the third inning, delivering a two-run double to right field to put the Fighting Scots ahead 4-1. Crooks added another run with an RBI single to give Edinboro a 5-1 advantage after three innings.

Kalet Lenart retired the Golden Eagles in order in the bottom of the third, before the Fighting Scots broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning.
Struebing, Hyland and Mason each drove in runs in the inning, extending the Fighting Scot lead to 9-1 in the fourth.
Lenart (7-6) turned in a dominant performance on the mound, allowing one run on three hits in five innings of work. The freshman fanned seven batters and walked one. She allowed just one base hit after the first inning.
Shawnna Crago was saddled with the loss for Clarion, allowing nine runs (four earned) on seven hits in five innings. Crago struck out two and walked two.
Hyland finished the game 1-for-3 at the plate with three RBI to lead the Scots. Hyland is now 7-for-14 with six RBI and four extra-base hits in the last six games.
Edinboro returns to action tomorrow, April 18 with a PSAC West twinbill at Mercyhurst. The first game is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. in Erie, PA.
