Despite the two lopsided final scores, Edinboro battled the Vulcans for much of the afternoon. The first game was tied at 1-1 going into the sixth inning before Cal pushed across four runs in the sixth, then exploded for 11 runs in the top of the seventh.

In game two, Edinboro led 3-2 after one inning and still trailed just 5-3 after three innings and 703 going into the sixth inning. The Fighting Scots were unable to push any runs across as Cal scored three more runs over the final two frames.

GAME 1 – California (Pa.) 16, Edinboro 1
The Vulcans plated a run in the second inning on a pair of singles, but Edinboro knotted the score in the bottom of the third. Laura Crooks opened the inning with a walk and was sacrificed to second. Heather Tighe followed with a double to left to make it 1-1. Unfortunately, the Fighting Scots would not manage another hit against Cal standout Alex Sagl. They would get one In the seventh against reliever Haley Bashada. Edinboro starter Samantha Weaver would hold the high-powered Cal attack at bay until the sixth inning, when the Vulcans pushed across three runs with two outs, two on a triple by Natalie Wideman.  They then exploded by 11 runs in the seventh inning as 17 batters came to the plate against three Edinboro hurlers.  All told, the Vulcans had nine hits in the inning, plus four walks and an Edinboro error.  Kylie Mason had two of Edinboro's five hits.  Sagl improved to 15-2, going the first six innings and striking out nine while allowing four hits and a walk.

GAME 2 – California (Pa.) 10, Edinboro 3
Lindsay Reicoff opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning, her seventh of the season, but Edinboro answered with a three-run shot by Haley Struebing in the bottom of the frame. Brenna Cosgrove and Brooke Callaghan had singles before Struebing poled her sixth home run. Cal scored three times in the third inning, two on a single by Natalya Smarra. Edinboro had runners on first and third with one out in the bottom of the inning but failed to score. They would threaten just one more time, with runners at first and third with two outs in the fifth, but Callaghan was called out on strikes. Cosgrove was Edinboro's lone batter with multiple hits, going 2-for-4.  Sagl came on in relief to pick up the win for Cal, going 3 1/3 scoreless innings to improve to 16-2.

Edinboro is back in action on Monday, April 21 hosting Mercyhurst in a key PSAC West twinbill. The Fighting Scots are battling the Lakers, Gannon, Seton Hill, and Slippery Rock for the final two playoff spots in the Western Division. Edinboro will play four doubleheaders in six days, with all four at home.
