(April 26, 2014) – The Edinboro softball team posted a 6-5 come-from-behind win in the first game, before using an eight-run first inning to earn a 12-2 victory in game two to collect a doubleheader sweep of Seton Hill on Saturday afternoon in Edinboro. The Fighting Scots improved to 17-20-1 and 12-13-1 in the PSAC with the wins, while the Griffins dropped to 20-18 and 10-16 in the conference.
Trailing 5-4 in the sixth inning in the first half of the PSAC twinbill, then belted her first career home run to give Edinboro a 7-0 lead. Mary Louise Lindner followed with a triple, before Cosgrove plated Lindner with a single through the right side.
Cosgrove added another RBI in the bottom of the third inning, scoring Mason on a single through the left side.
After the Griffins pushed across two runs in the top of the fourth, the Fighting Scots added three runs in the bottom of the frame on RBI singles by Callaghan and Sarah Hitchcock, as well as a pinch-hit RBI double to center field.
Edinboro pitcher Kalet Lenart (9-8) turned in a dominant outing, allowing no earned runs on just three hits in all five innings of work. Lenart struck out five batters and walked two.
Cosgrove finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and three stolen bases. With 22 stolen bases on the season, the center fielder is now one swipe shy of tying the single-season record of 23 set by Katelyn Gurgiolo in 2009.
Callaghan went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBI, while Mason was 1-for-1 with 3 RBI and a walk.
Hayley Morgan (0-2) suffered the loss for Seton Hill, allowing six runs on five hits in .1 innings of work.
The Fighting Scots return to action on Monday afternoon for a PSAC twinbill, hosting Gannon in the regular season finale. The first game is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
