Fighting Scot Softball Team Set for PSAC Championship

EDINBORO, Pa. (April 29, 2014) – The Edinboro softball team will travel to Quakertown, PA for the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship this week, taking on West Chester in the first round on Thursday, May 3 at 1:30 p.m. The Fighting Scots earned a postseason berth for the first time since 2010 and fifth overall under 25th-year head coach

leads the Edinboro offense into the postseason, ranking fourth in the PSAC with a .411 batting average and third in the conference with 53 base hits. Cosgrove also set the Edinboro single season record with 24 stolen bases during the regular season. She also ranks third in school history with 44 career stolen bases. The senior comes into the postseason on a tear at the plate, posting 13 hits in her last 26 at-bats with two doubles, four RBI and nine stolen bases in her last eight games. Additionally, Cosgrove has produced 19 multi-hit games, including three consecutive multi-hit efforts to close the season.

Lenart vs. Clarion
has been effective out of the Fighting Scot bullpen, appearing in 14 games with a team-best 4.09 ERA. Johnston has strung together 15.2 consecutive scoreless innings.

Samantha Weaver has made 13 starts on the season in 18 appearances, compiling a 3-9 record and a 6.31 ERA.

Edinboro and West Chester last met during the 2010 campaign, when the Fighting Scots earned a doubleheader sweep of the Golden Rams. Edinboro tallied a total of 25 runs in the twinbill, defeating West Chester by scores of 13-4 and 12-11.

The Fighting Scots dropped their first two games in their last trip to the PSAC Championship in   2010, falling 4-3 to Kutztown in the first round and 4-0 to eventual conference champion Bloomsburg in an elimination contest.
 
Edinboro's last victory in the PSAC Championship came in 2009, when the Fighting Scots defeated Mansfield twice. The 2009 team set a school record for wins with 26 on the season. Edinboro closed the 2009 with a 26-17 record after finishing second in the PSAC Western Division standings.
