Lou Rosselli Named 2013 Terry McCann Coach of the Year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. (June 20, 2014) -  Former Edinboro University All-American and assistant coach Lou Rosselli has earned the 2013 Terry McCann coaching award as the National Freestyle Coach of the Year, USA Wrestling announced on Sunday, June 16. Rosselli currently serves as the associate head coach at The Ohio State University.

Lou Rosselli The award is named after wrestling legend Terry McCann, a two-time NCAA champion in 1955 and 1956 and a three-time Big Ten titlist for the University of Iowa. McCann won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1960 Rome Olympics.

Rosselli joined the Buckeyes in 2006 after serving as an assistant coach at Edinboro for 11 seasons.  Prior to coaching, he was a two-time All-American at Edinboro, capturing third place at 118 lbs. at the NCAA Division I National Championships in 1993 and fourth place in 1991.  He had a career record of 136-25-4 as a Fighting Scot, good for fourth in career victories. Rosselli was inducted into the Edinboro Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.

In addition to his coaching duties with the Buckeyes, Rosselli is the head coach at the Ohio Regional Training Center in Columbus and a coach with the New York Athletic Club.

Rosselli worked as the personal coach for five 2013 U.S. Freestyle World Team members, including Angel Escobedo at 55 kg, Reece Humphrey at 60 kg, Keith Gavin at 84 kg, J.D. Bergman at 96 kg and Tervel Dlagnev at 120 kg. All five train under Rosselli at the Ohio Regional Training Center.

Rosselli was also a 2013 United States World Team Coach, helping the United States to a fifth-place finish at the World Championships, led by individual champion Jordan Burroughs.

As coach for the New York Athletic Club, Rosselli helped the club to the Division I Team title at the U.S. Open. The NYAC had two individual champions and placed six athletes on the national team at the World Team Trials.Lou Rosselli

Rosselli was part of the United States Olympic Freestyle Wrestling coaching staff at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England. He joined Nebraska head coach Mark Manning and Oklahoma State head coach John Smith as assistant coaches for the team under United States National Freestlye head coach Zeke Jones.

During Rosselli's tenure at Ohio State, the Buckeyes placed second in the team standings at the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships as a team. He was named National Wrestling Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year in 2009.

Rosselli competed at the 1996 Olympic game in Atlanta, Ga. at 114.5 lbs.  He would see his pursuit for a medal end prematurely when he suffered a broken arm during a victory and had to withdraw from competition.
He was a 1997 World Cup champion, and won a silver medal at the 1998 Pan American Championships. In addition, he won U.S. National freestyle titles three times (1995, 1996, 1999) and was second in the 1998 U.S. Nationals. Rosselli was also a University Nationals freestyle champion in 1994.
