TORONTO, Ont. (July 2, 2014) – Former Edinboro University quarterback Trevor Harris has had his contract with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League extended through the 2015. The extension was announced by the Argonauts on July 1.
Argonauts General Manager Jim Barker commented, "Trevor has been a competitor since he joined our club prior to the 2012 season, and we have been very happy with his development as a professional. We are glad he will remain with our team into the future."
Toronto began its 2014 season on June 26 with a 45-21 loss at Winnipeg. Harris saw limited action, throwing one incomplete pass. It marked his 37th game in uniform for the Argonauts since joining the team as a free agent in March of 2012. He was part of the 2012 Toronto team which won the Grey Cup with a victory over Calgary.
In six regular season games, Harris has completed 17 of 35 passes for 256 yards with one touchdown. His best game came in the 2013 regular season finale when he completed 6 of 9 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown against Montreal. A year ago he completed 9 of 15 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown.
Upon the extension of his contract, Harris commented, "I'm very blessed and excited that I can continue to learn and develop as a person, player and teammate in Toronto. This is a great organization with a great football culture and I am so glad I can continue to be a part of it."
Harris enjoyed a record-setting career as Edinboro's quarterback from 2006-09 and holds every Edinboro passing and total offense record. He was a finalist for the Harlon Hill Award in 2008 and again in 2009, and was named Edinboro's Sox Harrison Award winner at the conclusion of his career. Harris was a four-time All-PSAC West selection, earning first team honors his final three seasons. In addition, he was voted the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009, along with earning Football Gazette All-American honors and D2Football.com All-American honors both years.
The former Boro standout ended his career throwing for 11,899 yards, good for second all-time in the PSAC and ranking in the top ten all-time in Division II. In addition, his career total of 12,691 yards in total offense is also second all-time in the PSAC and in the top ten in Division II. Harris totaled 100 career passing touchdowns, second in the PSAC. He set a new PSAC career record for completions (966), while standing third in career pass attempts in the PSAC with 1,464.
Harris would go on to sign with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars as a free agent in April 2010, surviving until the final cut. He would go on to play for the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League, and in 2012 was a members of the Arizona Rattlers' team which reached the Arena Bowl. He also played for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the UFL.
