Box Score (New/Sortable Format) SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Edinboro fell to 0-2 on the young 2014 season as the Fighting Scots suffered a 47-21 loss at Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon. The contest was also the PSAC opener for both teams. The Red Raiders improved to 2-0 overall with the win.
After an encouraging first quarter in which the Fighting Scots led 7-0, Edinboro was unable to slow down the high-powered Shippensburg offense over the final three periods. The Fighting Scots turned in an impressive seven-play, 99-yard drive to grab a 7-0 lead with 2:41 remaining in the period. Facing a 3rd-and-10 from their own one yard line,

touchdown.Keith Regis bounced a run outside left several plays later for a 12-yard gain to the Ship 19. On the next play Harris and Massey hooked up once again, this time for 19 yards and a touchdown. Harris found the sophomore wide receiver streaking down the middle of the field following a play fake.
Unfortunately, Shippensburg ran off the next 33 points, leading 19-7 at the half. Blair Brooks accounted for the first two Red Raiders scores on runs of four and 62 yards. Record-setting receiver Trevor Harman had the next two scores, catching a 19-yard touchdown pass from Chris Lawshe and a 33-yarder from Ryan Zapoticky. The latter gave the senior wide receiver the Shippensburg career scoring record, breaking the previous record held by current Green Bay Packer John Kuhn.
Shippensburg expanded the lead to 33-7 when Brian Sourber stepped in front of a Harris pass at the Edinboro 48 and returned it 48 yards for his second career interception return for six points.
Edinboro closed the margin to 33-14 on Harris' second touchdown of the day, capping a six-play, 67-yard drive. It featured a pair of long Harris passes – 31 yards to Massey and es – 31 yards to Massey and 37 yards to
Ben Eisel. The latter carried down to the SU 6. On the next play Harris rolled to his right and sprinted into the end zone for a six-yard scoring run.
Edinboro held Shippensburg on its next two possessions, but on the second the Fighting Scots were called for a roughing the punter penalty, giving the Red Raiders new life at their own 45. Ten plays later Lawshe found Sheldon Mayer for a four-yard touchdown pass and a 40-21 lead with 1:14 left in the third quarter.
The team exchanged fourth quarter touchdowns. Harris directed Edinboro on a 30-yard drive after
Domenic Principale recovered a fumble. On 4th-and-5 from the eight he connected with
Kolbe Hughes for a touchdown, marking the first touchdown reception for the freshman.
Shippensburg responded with a nine-play, 80-yard march, all on the ground. Justin Pyle capped the scoring drive with a two-yard touchdown run to close the scoring at the 6:01 mark.
After running off 103 plays for 713 yards at Seton Hill a week ago, Shippensburg ended the rainy afternoon with 479 yards on 79 plays. Edinboro totaled 361 yards on 64 plays. Harris completed 29 of 36 passes for 300 yards with 2 TDs and an interception. Massey enjoyed one of the best days ever by a Boro receiver. He caught 11 passes for 161 yards, just two catches shy of the school record. Edinboro failed to muster much of a ground game, as the Scots finished with 46 yards on 24 carries, and 27 of that came on a run by Nick hall in the final minute. Harris was sacked five times.
Lawshe and Zapoticky alternated at quarterback for Shippensburg. Lawshe completed 16 of 26 passes for 151 yards with 2 TDs, while Zapoticky was 9 of 10 for 82 yards and a score, along with 45 yards rushing on eight carries.
Brooks rushed for a career-high 170 yards on 18 carries with 2 TDS, as the Red Raiders finished with 246 yards on the ground.
Harman, an All-American a year ago, hauled in 12 passes for 133 yards and two scores.
The going doesn't get any easier for Edinboro this coming week. The Fighting Scots will host East Stroudsburg, who was picked to finish second in the PSAC East in the Coaches Preseason Poll, in the home opener on Saturday, September 20. Kickoff is set for 12 noon at Sox Harrison Stadium.
