EDINBORO, Pa. (September 19, 2014) - The Edinboro women's soccer team hosts Shippensburg on Saturday evening in a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament match. The match kicks-off at 5:00 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium as Edinboro seeks its first win of the season. The Fighting Scots enter the contest 0-4-1 overall and in the PSAC. The Raiders are 1-2-1 overall and in conference play.
Edinboro is off to its worst start in school history going winless through its first five games. The Scots have lost the last three straight and failed to score a goal over that span with a 1-0 loss at Millersville on Monday in their most recent game. They are also 0-2-0 at home this year after posting a 9-1-1 record at home last season.
Alex Brown is the only player with multiple goals this season after tallying two goals in the 2-2 tie against Mercyhurst. The sophomore forward is now at nine career goals after scoring seven as a freshman.
The Fighting Scots are hoping star upperclassmen
Liz Debo and
Jansen Hartmann find the scoreboard soon. Neither has been lacking in opportunities as the two have combined for 23 shots through five games, but have yet to produce a goal.
Meghan Kelly remains the goalkeeper for Edinboro. The senior holds the school record for career wins (31), minutes played (5196), and is tied with Kate Stukbauer in shutouts (17).
Shippensburg has been led by freshman Jenny Litz. The forward leads the Raiders with two goals.
Kayla Kennedy has started the last three games in net for Shippensburg after sitting out the season-opener. The freshman netminder is second in the PSAC in goals against average (0.30) and save percentage (93.8 percent).
Last season these two teams played three times. Edinboro won the regular season contest 3-0 at Sox Harrison Stadium to extend its regular season winning streak against the Raiders to four games. Shippensburg eliminated the Fighting Scots from the PSAC Tournament. The Raiders defeated the Scots 4-3 in penalty kicks following a scoreless tie through 110 minutes. The two would meet one last time in the NCAA Atlantic Regional with Shippensburg securing the 1-0 victory with a goal in the 71
st minute to end Edinboro's season.
Edinboro holds a 9-8-1 record in the series against Shippensburg with a 5-2-1 record when playing in the friendly confines of Sox Harrison Stadium.
The Scots have another home game next week when Seton Hill comes to town on Wednesday, September 24.
