Edinboro leads 93-19: The Fighting Scots have dominated the all-time series dating back to the 1957-58 season. Edinboro has won six consecutive games against the Bald Eagles, after Lock Haven swept the season series in 2009-10, snapping a nine-game winning streak by the Fighting Scots. The Bald Eagles previously competed in the PSAC Western Division before shifting to the Eastern Division when Pitt-Johnstown and Seton Hill joined the PSAC for the 2013-14 season.
The Last Meeting
February 9, 2013 - Edinboro 82, Lock Haven 72: Thanks to an 18-0 run late in the game, Edinboro clinched a PSAC Tournament berth with an 82-72 win over Lock Haven at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots expanded a 35-25 halftime lead to 41-25 on 3-pointers by Johnathan Logan and Isaiah Prince to start the second half. A scrappy Lock Haven team refused to fold, however, and used a 19-4 run to take a four-point lead at 62-58 with 7:34 remaining. Edinboro answered with the next 18 points, fueled by Prince's eight markers to give the Fighting Scots a 76-62 lead with 2:58 remaining. The final three minutes were filled with numerous fouls, but Edinboro closed out the game making 6-of-6 free throws. Jay Fletcher led four Scots in double figures as the senior guard finished with 19 points. Prince made 5 of 6 shots over the final twenty minutes to finish with 17 points. Bryan Theriot totaled 15 points, while Logan ended the day with 12 points. Lock Haven's Wali Hepburn, the leading scorer in the PSAC, finished with 22 points, due in large part to an 11-for-13 chart at the free throw line. He fell just shy of a triple-double with 10 rebounds and eight assists. Kasheef Festus also had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds before fouling out for the Bald Eagles. Edinboro shot 50.9 percent from the floor. The Scots were at a cool 39.4 percent from the field in the first half, but made 16 of 24 shots (66.7 pct.) in the second half. The Bald Eagles were held to 35.2 percent shooting in the contest.
The Coaches
Edinboro - Pat Cleary (Edinboro '99): Cleary is in his second year as head coach of the Fighting Scots, leading Edinboro to an 15-21 record in that time. Cleary took over for his predecessor Greg Walcavich, who spent 24 years at the helm of the Edinboro program. Cleary previously worked as an assistant under Walcavich for 16 years, first as a student aide before becoming a full-time assistant coach. Cleary is credited for recruiting many of Edinboro's top contributors in recent years. (More complete bio on pg. 11)
Lock Haven - Mike Nestor (Shippensburg '99): Nestor is beginning to revive the Bald Eagle program after a recent history of losing. The former Shippensburg player and assistant coach led Lock Haven to a 17-10 record last season, including a 10-6 mark in PSAC East play, earning their first trip to the PSAC postseason since 2003. For his efforts, Nestor was named the PSAC East Coach of the Year. This happened in just his third season at the helm of the program, after persevering through an 0-25 season in his first year in 2011-12. A former two-year captain for the Red Raiders, he served as an assistant coach at his alma mater from 2000-11.
