EDINBORO, Pa. (October 12, 2015) – The Edinboro University women's soccer team will have its chance to do something no one has been able to do this year on Tuesday, October 13. The Fighting Scots will try to hand undefeated and top-ranked Gannon its first loss in a PSAC road match at 6:30 p.m. at McConnell Family Stadium.
Edinboro has not defeated the Lady Knights since 2006, with Gannon holding an 11-6-3 lead in the all-time series. The Fighting Scots are 8-4-0 overall and 7-3-0 in the PSAC following Saturday's loss at Bloomsburg. The Golden Knights are 12-0-0 overall, with an 11-0-0 PSAC record. Edinboro is ranked 25th in NCAA Division II and third in the Atlantic Region in last week's NSCAA poll. Gannon tops both the national and Atlantic Regional rankings. They have led the Atlantic Region for four straight weeks.
Junior midfielder
Grace Kereky scored the Fighting Scots' lone goal in their 2-1 loss to Bloomsburg. Kereky's goal, her first of the year and assisted by
Jansen Hartmann, tied the game at one in the 75th minute. But a goal by the Huskies' Rachel Yenney five minutes later ended the Fighting Scots' winning streak at three games.
Hartmann, a senior forward, leads the Fighting Scots with 20 points on eight goals and four assists. She is ranked ninth all-time in Edinboro scoring in career points (62), eighth in career goals (22) and fourth in career assists (18). Freshman midfielder
Halle Hammer is right behind Hartmann with 12 points on six goals.
Goalkeeper
Sarah Baskey has started eight games in goal. She has a 6-2-0 record with eight goals allowed and four shutouts.
Gannon enters Tuesday coming off a 5-0 win over Mansfield on Saturday. Their five goals marked a season high. Six of the Golden Knights' wins have been decided by one goal, including wins against Clarion, West Chester and Slippery Rock. Gannon has not allowed more than one goal to any opponent this season.
Senior forward Manni Brueckner is the Golden Knights leading scorer with 26 points on eleven goals and four assists. Sammy Valloud is second with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Goalie Shannon Differ has a 0.69 goals against average with four shutouts.
Last year's match saw Gannon defeat Edinboro in overtime, 2-1. Justine Rodriguez had both of the Golden Knights goals, including the game-winning goal in the 97th minute.
Ashley DeVito scored for the Fighting Scots.
Following Tuesday's match, Edinboro returns home on Saturday, October 17 for a PSAC match against Kutztown at 1:00 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
