Fighting Scots Eye Home Win Against Kutztown Saturday to End Two-Game Drought

EDINBORO, Pa. (October 14, 2015) – The Edinboro University women's soccer team will look to end their two-game losing streak on Saturday, October 17 when they host PSAC opponent Kutztown at 1:00 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.

The Fighting Scots will also try to seek revenge on the Golden Bears, after losing to them in last year's PSAC Quarterfinals match. Kutztown finished runners up in the PSAC in 2014 and advanced as far as the first round of the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament, where they lost to California (Pa.) in penalty kicks, 4-3, after a 1-1 draw.

The Fighting Scots are 8-5-0 overall and 7-4-0 in the PSAC. The Golden Bears are 8-3-1 overall, with an 8-3-0 PSAC record. Edinboro is ranked seventh in the NSCAA's Atlantic Region poll. Kutztown is ranked fourth.

The Fighting Scots have lost their last two matches, the first against Bloomsburg on Saturday, 2-1, and the second against top-ranked and undefeated Gannon on Tuesday, 4-0. Gannon scored all four of their goals in the first half, aided by a strong wind at their backs. Edinboro goalkeeper Sarah Baskey tallied eight saves in net.

Senior forward Jansen Hartmann leads the Fighting Scots with 20 points on eight goals and four assists. She is ranked ninth all-time in Edinboro scoring in career points (62), eighth in career goals (22) and fourth in career assists (18). Freshman midfielder Halle Hammer is right behind Hartmann with 12 points on six goals.

Baskey has started nine games in goal. She has a 6-3-0 record with 12 goals allowed and four shutouts.

Kutztown rides into Edinboro on a five-game winning streak, recently defeating Bloomsburg on Tuesday, 3-1. All three of the Golden Bears' losses were decided by one goal; those losses were against Gannon, Seton Hill and West Chester.

Sophomore forward Brooke May is Kutztown's leading scorer with 10 points on two goals and six assists. Sammy Valloud is second in scoring with nine points on four goals and one assist and leads the team in goals. Goalie Deanna Messner has a 5-2-1 record with a 0.92 goals against average and four shutouts.

Edinboro defeated Kutztown in the regular season last year, 2-1, but fell to Kutztown in the PSAC Quarterfinals, 2-0. Sam Costello scored for the Golden Bears in the 35th minute, followed by a 61st-minute goal from Diana Malanga to help Kutztown advance to the PSAC Semifinals, where they defeated West Chester, 4-2, and then lost in the PSAC Championship to East Stroudsburg, 1-0.

Following Saturday's match, Edinboro will play the second of their three-game home stand on Wednesday, October 21 when they take on PSAC rival Slippery Rock at 6:00 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
