EDINBORO, Pa. (October 19, 2015) – The Edinboro University women's soccer team, after defeating Kutztown on Saturday to end a two-game losing streak, plays host to Slippery Rock in another important PSAC match on Wednesday, October 21 at 6:00 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
The Fighting Scots have a 9-5-0 overall record and an 8-4-0 PSAC record. The Rock are 8-5-1 overall, with a 7-4-1 PSAC record. Edinboro was ranked seventh in last week's NSCAA Atlantic Region poll. Slippery Rock was ranked ninth. More important, right now Edinboro is tied with Kutztown for third place in the PSAC standings, with Slippery Rock right behind in a tie for fifth.
The Scots used three first-half goals and a two-goal, one-assist performance by
Ashley Mutkus to defeat Kutztown, 4-1, on a rainy and snowy Saturday at Sox Harrison Stadium. Mutkus got Edinboro on the board at the 1:43 mark to go up, 1-0.
Alex Brown extended the Boro's lead to two goals in the 18th minute, then
Jansen Hartmann took a pass from Mutkus and scored in the 42nd minute to give the Fighting Scots a 3-1 halftime lead. Mutkus closed out the scoring with a 75th-minute goal to put Edinboro back in the win column, exacting revenge on the Golden Bears, whom they lost to in last year's PSAC Quarterfinals match.
Hartmann, a senior forward, leads the Fighting Scots with 23 points on nine goals and five assists. She is ranked ninth all-time in Edinboro scoring in career points (65), eighth in career goals (23), and fourth in career assists (19). Mutkus is second with 15 points on five goals and five assists.
Goalkeeper
Sarah Baskey has started ten games in goal. She has a 7-3-0 record with a 1.18 goals allowed average and four shutouts.
Slippery Rock comes to Edinboro losing to 24th-ranked West Chester on Saturday, 1-0. The Rock's three other PSAC losses came against Gannon, Bloomsburg and Millersville, all decided by one goal. Their one draw came against East Stroudsburg. Six of their wins have been shutouts, all decided by identical 4-0 scores.
Junior forward Dara Demich leads The Rock in scoring with 21 points on nine goals and three assists. Andrea Felix is second with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Goalie Charlotte Elrod has played the majority of time in goal, holding a 0.78 goals against average with five shutouts.
Slippery Rock defeated Edinboro in their matchup last year, 1-0. The match was scoreless up until the 88:44 mark, when Caitlin Binder scored the game-winning goal for The Rock.
