Playoff-Bound Edinboro Takes Ride to Mansfield to Close Out Regular Season

EDINBORO, Pa. (October 29, 2015) – The Edinboro University women's soccer team celebrated their sixth straight PSAC tournament berth on Tuesday with a 2-1 win over Indiana (Pa.). The Boro can now clinch a home playoff match with a victory at Mansfield in the regular season finale on Saturday, October 31 at 1:30 p.m.

The Fighting Scots stand at 11-6-0 overall and 10-5-0 in the PSAC. The Mountaineers hold a 4-11-1 overall record and a 3-11-1 PSAC record. Edinboro is ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region in this week's NCAA regular season poll and fourth in this week's NSCAA Atlantic Region poll.

A win puts the Fighting Scots at fourth place in the PSAC standings, good enough for the last home playoff spot in the eight-team tournament, which begins Tuesday, November 3. Gannon and West Chester have secured the first and second seeds, respectively, while Kutztown and Slippery Rock have also clinched tournament bids.

Senior midfielder Jansen Hartmann leads the Fighting Scots with 26 points on ten goals and six assists. She is ranked eighth all-time in Edinboro scoring in career points (68), eighth in career goals (24), and third in career assists (20). Sophomore midfielder Ashley Mutkus is second with 17 points on six goals and five assists.

Goalkeeper Sarah Baskey has 13 starts in goal, possessing a 9-4-0 record with a 1.19 goals against average and four shutouts.

Mansfield snapped a six-game losing streak on Tuesday, defeating Millersville, 3-2. Their other two PSAC wins were against Pitt-Johnstown and Clarion by identical 1-0 scores. They drew against Seton Hill.

Delaney Meadows is the Mountaineers' leading scorer with 24 points on 11 goals and two assists. Kelsey Chapman is second with 12 points on four goals and four assists. Goalie Rachel Fox holds a 2.38 goals against average with two shutouts.

Edinboro is 7-0-2 in the all-time series against Mansfield and have won the last five matches, including a 6-3 victory last year. The Fighting Scots scored the first six goals of the match, with Mutkus netting four goals and Liz Debo scoring two goals.
