Lake Erie Game Notes

The Game Story
The Edinboro men's basketball team continues its season on Tuesday night with a non-conference home game against Lake Erie at 7:00 p.m. in McComb Fieldhouse. This will conclude a four-game home stand for the Fighting Scots.

This marks the first time since the 2009-10 season that the Fighting Scots and the Storm will meet. They played each other twice that season, with Edinboro winning the first game and Lake Erie taking the second game.

The Fighting Scots are currently 2-1 overall and in the PSAC West. They opened their season last week with three consecutive PSAC home games. They were successful in defeating Slippery Rock on Wednesday, 80-74, fell to Kutztown on Saturday, 92-82, and defeated Mansfield on Sunday, 88-75. Edinboro received a number-three ranking in the PSAC West preseason poll.

The Boro, as a team, averages 83.3 points per game and 41.7 rebounds per game. They hold a 43.4% field goal percentage (82-for-189) and are 33.3% percent (22-for-66) on 3-pointers. The Fighting Scots have outrebounded their opponents, 125-106 and have held the opposition to 80.3 points per game.

Last Time Out
11/22/15 – Edinboro 88, Mansfield 75
With the game tied at 40 with 16:32 remaining, the Scots went on a 10-3 run, aided by a pair of 3-pointers by Michael Beck and Henri Wade-Chatman. Edinboro kept the heat on as Wade-Chatman came to life in the second half with 20 points and shooting 5-for-8 from behind the arc, accompanied by Tommy Scales shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field. The Scots went up by double digits for the first time in the game with 11:20 remaining in regulation, as Wade-Chatman, after nailing another 3-pointer, stole the ball away from Eric Lewis and drove to the net for a slam dunk to increase the Scots' lead, 60-50. Mansfield was able to narrow the lead down to four, trailing 62-58 with 8:23 left in the game. But this would be as close as the Mountaineers would get, as Edinboro responded with a 12-3 run, capitalized by a 3-pointer by Sheldon Brogdon, to take a 74-61 lead, their largest lead of the game. The Mounties would mount on final threat with a pair of 3-pointers by Gerisimos Koutoufas to draw within seven with 3:36 to go in regulation. But it would be all Edinboro from that point on, as Wade-Chatman and Brogdon each added a 3-pointer to their totals to help give the Fighting Scots the sizeable win. Wade-Chatman posted 27 points, five assists, and four steals, while Tommy Scales tallied up 18 points and seven rebounds. Jaymon Mason scored 12 points with six assists, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line.

11/19/15 – Lake Erie 77, Seton Hill 73 (OT)
The Storm struck first in the extra session with a Sean Howard layup, however, the Griffins quickly matched it.  A minute later, Trey Howard drained a three to give the Storm a 68-65 lead. After a free-throw by the Griffins, Trey Howard hit his second three of the frame to increase the Storm advantage to five. In the closing minutes, Nick Wells and Andy Bosley converted a pair of free throws apiece to seal the win for the Storm. Trey Howard ended the game with a career-high 22 points. He also had a team-high three steals to go alongside a pair of rebounds and assists. Bosley netted 20 while grabbing four rebounds and blocking two shots. He was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free-throw line. Sean Howard ended the game in double digits with 12 points while Alexander had nine. Wells had a team-high seven rebounds while Michael Morris came down with five. The Storm shot 40.3% (25-of-62) for the game. Overall, the Storm defense forced 17 turnovers, leading to 19 points.

Edinboro lost three games to nationally-ranked teams and suffered a number of close losses, including two overtime losses and two defeats at the buzzer. Season number two saw the Fighting Scots make the PSAC playoffs as the number five seed after being picked to finish eighth in the PSAC coaches' poll. Edinboro ended the year with a 14-13 record, falling at Slippery Rock, 64-60, in the first round of the PSAC Playoffs. Among the victories was a 79-77 overtime upset of 16th-ranked Indiana (Pa.). Under his direction, the Storm made its only two NCAA Tournament appearances, most recently competing in the second round during the 2006-07 season. His teams also earned the only two Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championships – both regular season and tournament, in program history with back-to-back titles in the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons.
