Edinboro Looks to Snap Three-Game Skid Hosting No. 16 IUP Saturday

The Game Stories
• Edinboro closes a difficult four-game stretch on Saturday against No. 16 Indiana (Pa.). The Fighting Scots have dropped three consecutive games against three of the top teams in the PSAC Western Division following a 75-64 loss to Slippery Rock on Wednesday night.

• Including today's matchup, the Fighting Scots will have faced the top four teams in the division consecutively. Prior to Wednesday's contest, Edinboro fell to local rivals Gannon and Mercyhurst last week.

• The Fighting Scots sit in seventh place in the PSAC Western Division with an 8-11 PSAC mark and have three conference contests remaining beginning with the Crimson Hawks on Saturday. Two of the six PSAC Tournament spots in the Western Division still remain, as Gannon, IUP, Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock have all clinched a spot in the postseason. Pitt-Johnstown (9-9) and California (Pa.) (9-10) are currently in fifth and sixth place, respectively.

Henri Wade-Chatman leads the PSAC in scoring at 19.4 points per game, while Casey Baker paces the Fighting Scots and ranks 15th in the conference in rebounding at 6.5 boards per contest. Warren Chance is the Crimson Hawks' leading scorer at 14.9 points per game.

• IUP sits in second place in the division with a 14-4 conference ledger following a 58-55 loss at Mercyhurst on Wednesday. The Crimson Hawks are one of the top defensive teams in NCAA Division II, limiting opponents to 60.8 points per game, good for fifth in the country.

• The Fighting Scots are 8-4 at home this season, while IUP is 7-3 on the road.

The Edinboro-IUP Series
IUP leads 95-72

• The series dates back to the 1928-29 season.

• IUP has won 13 straight games against Edinboro.

• Prior to the13-game skid, the Fighting Scots had won eight consecutive meetings over the Crimson Hawks.

• Edinboro and IUP have played several close games during that stretch. Two of the last six meetings have gone to overtime, with seven of the last ten games being decided by less than 10 points.

• Edinboro's last victory against IUP came in the first meeting of the 2008-09 campaign by a score of 83-78 at McComb Fieldhouse.

The Last Meeting
1/14/15 - #16 IUP 79, Edinboro 69

• Trailing by seven points at 64-57 with 7:04 to play, Edinboro rattled off five straight points, including jumpers by Will Marrow and Casey Baker to cut the Crimson Hawks' lead to two points at 64-62 with 4:42 remaining in the contest.

• IUP answered with an 8-2 run to build its lead to eight points at 72-64 with just over a minute showing on the clock.

• Edinboro would cut the deficit to five points at 74-69 with 33 seconds showing on the clock after a Tommy Scales jumper, but that was as close as the Fighting Scots would come as IUP knocked down 5-of-6 free throws from that point on, pulling away for the 10-point triumph.

Jaymon Mason paced Edinboro with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Henri Wade-Chatman was the only other Fighting Scot to score in double-figures on the night with 14 markers, connecting on 4-of-12 field goals.

• Shawn Dyer posted a double-double for the Crimson Hawks with game-highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds. Devante Chance tallied 24 points, while Jeremy Jeffers added 11 markers for IUP.

The Coaches
Edinboro - Pat Cleary (Edinboro '99)

• Cleary is in his second year as head coach of the Fighting Scots, leading Edinboro to an 21-26 record in that time.

• Cleary took over for his mentor Greg Walcavich, who spent 24 years at the helm of the Edinboro program.

• He previously worked as an assistant under Walcavich for 16 years, first as a student aide before becoming a full-time assistant coach.

• Cleary is credited for recruiting many of Edinboro's top contributors in recent years. (More complete bio on pg. 10)

IUP - Joe Lombardi (Youngstown State '81)
• Lombardi is in his ninth season at the helm of the IUP program, showing a record of 187-72 in that time.

• He helped the Crimson Hawks to a 24-5 mark last season. IUP advanced to the NCAA Atlantic Regional semifinals.

• Lombardi has led the Crimson Hawks to three PSAC titles, as well as six straight NCAA Tournaments.

• He served as an assistant coach at Pitt under Jamie Dixon for three seasons prior to being hired at IUP.

• Lombardi owns a 13-5 career record against Edinboro.

Last Time Out
2/11/15 - Slippery Rock 75, Edinboro 64

• In a game which featured 10 ties and 13 lead changes, Edinboro jumped out to an early 12-2 lead, which would prove to be its largest advantage of the night

• Slippery Rock answered with a 12-2 run of its own to knot the game at 14-14 with 9:37 to play in the first half.

• The two teams would trade baskets with neither team leading by more than three points from that point on in the first frame, with The Rock claiming a 34-33 halftime advantage.

• Holding a 41-40 lead at the 14:22 mark of the second half, The Rock used an 11-2 run to take a 52-42 lead with 10:27 to play.

• The Fighting Scots battled back, cutting the deficit to five points 67-62 with 1:45 showing on the clock. Unfortunately for the Fighting Scots, Slippery Rock closed the contest with an 8-2 run to earn the 75-64 conference victory.

Henri Wade-Chatman netted a game-high 29 points for Edinboro, connecting on 7-of-30 field goals. He knocked down 4-of-11 shots from behind the arc and 11-of-16 free throws to go along with six rebounds. His 30 field goal attempts and 16 free throw tries both represent career-highs.

Jaymon Mason was the only other Fighting Scot in double-figures with 17 markers

Sam Sealy-James paced Edinboro with a career-high 11 rebounds while matching a career-high with six blocked shots.

• The Fighting Scots shot a season-low 26.9 percent (18-of-67) from the field. Slippery Rock, the top rebounding team in the country, held a 58-46 advantage on the glass.

2/11/15 – Mercyhurst 58, #16 IUP 55
• Devante Chance eclipsed 1,000 career points, but his night was spoiled as the 16th-ranked Crimson Hawks fell to Mercyhurst 58-55.

• Chance became the became the 29th player in program history to reach the 1000-point milestone.

The senior guard also became just the fourth player in IUP men's basketball history with 1000 points and 400 assists.

• Trailing by two points at 55-53, Chance found Daddy Ugbede for a layup, which would prove to be the Crimson Hawk's final basket as IUP tied the game at 55-55 with 24 seconds to play.

• On the next Mercyhurst possession, Jean Onana knocked down a 3-pointer with two seconds remaining as the Lakers regained the 58-55 lead.

• Jeremy Jeffers had one last heave for IUP but his 3-pointer at the horn was off the mark.

• Chance went on to finish with 15 points and three assists.Ugbede pulled down a game-high seven rebounds for the Crimson Hawks.

• Shawn Dyer scored a game-high 23 points, making 7-of-14 shots from the field and 7-of-7 tries from the charity stripe. The Crimson Hawks were playing without their third leading scorer in Brandon Norfleet.

Scouting IUP
• The Crimson Hawks come into Saturday's game ranked 16th in the latest NABC Division II Top 25 with a 20-4 overall record and a 14-4 mark in conference play. IUP has compiled 20-or-more wins for the seventh straight season under head coach Joe Lombardi.

• IUP ranks fifth in NCAA Division II in scoring defense, allowing just 60.8 points per game. The Crimson Hawks also sit 12th in the country in free throw percentage at 76.9 percent on the season.

• IUP has won five of its last six games and 13 of its last 15 contests entering Saturday's matchup.

• Devante Chance, a 2013-14 All-PSAC Second Team selection, leads IUP and ranks 10th in the conference in scoring at 14.9 points per game. The son of former Edinboro standout Warren Chance, he also ranks second in the PSAC and 14th in the country with 5.9 assists per game. The Philadelphia native eclipsed 1,000 points for his career on Wednesday night at Mercyhurst. He became the fourth player in IUP history to surpass 1,000 career points and 400 career assists.

• Shawn Dyer, a West Liberty transfer in his first season with IUP, leads the team in rebounding at 5.5 boards per game and ranks second on the team in scoring at 13.1 points per contest. Brandon Norfleet, a Cheyney transfer, is third on the team in scoring at 12.1 points per game.
