Fighting Scots Travel to Clarion Wednesday for Season's Final Road Matchup

The Game Stories
• The Fighting Scots are coming off a thrilling 79-77 overtime upset victory over No.16 Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday at McComb Fieldhouse, posting their first win over a ranked team since defeating 17th-ranked Gannon 67-64 on Feb. 13, 2013.
• The win also snapped a 13-game losing streak to the Crimson Hawks. Prior to Saturday, Edinboro's last win against IUP came on Feb. 4, 2009 by a score of 83-78 at McComb Fieldhouse.
• In addition, it marked the first triumph over a ranked opponent for second year head coach Pat Cleary.
• Edinboro sits in seventh place in the PSAC Western Division with a 9-11 PSAC mark and have two conference contests remaining beginning with the Golden Eagles on Wednesday. Two of the six PSAC Tournament spots in the Western Division still remain, as Gannon, Mercyhurst, IUP and Slippery Rock have all clinched a spot in the postseason.
• Pitt-Johnstown (9-10) and California (Pa.) (9-10) are currently tied for fifth place. The Fighting Scots last qualified for the PSAC Tournament in 2012-13.
• The Fighting Scots take on UPJ to close the regular season on Feb. 25 at McComb Fieldhouse. The Mountain Cats' other two remaining games are against second place Mercyhurst and third place IUP, while Cal faces Seton Hill, first place Gannon and fourth place Slippery Rock to close the season.
Jaymon Mason was named the PSAC Western Division Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season, conference officials announced on Monday. He averaged 20.5 points, eight rebounds and four assists in two games during the week.
• Mason scored 17 points to go along with seven boards against Slippery Rock Wednesday, before helping Edinboro to a 79-77 upset victory over No. 16 Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday with a team-high 24 points, along with a career-high nine rebounds.

The Edinboro-Clarion Series
Edinboro leads 98-70

• The series dates back to the 1928-29 season.
• Edinboro has won six consecutive meetings between the two teams, with Clarion's last victory coming during the 2011-12 campaign.
• The Fighting Scots have won three consecutive games at Clarion's Tippin Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles won four of the previous seven meetings at home.
• Wednesday marks the 169th meeting between the Fighting Scots and Golden Eagles. Edinboro has faced Clarion more than any other team with the exception of California (Pa.) (170 games).

The Last Meeting
1/17/15 - Edinboro 83, Clarion 60

• The Fighting Scots shot 55.2 percent from the field and Henri Wade-Chatman netted 20 points to help Edinboro earn an 83-60 victory over visiting Clarion.
• Wade-Chatman led four Fighting Scots in double-figures, connecting on 8 of 15 field goals and 4 of 8 shots from behind the arc. The junior guard also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out a game-high seven assists on the day.
Jaymon Mason poured in 16 points, while Casey Baker dropped in 12 points and was a perfect 6 of 6 from the field. Sheldon Brogdon chipped in 11 points off the bench, sinking 3 of 7 shots from long range. Will Marrow had nine points on 4 of 7 shooting, as well.
Sam Sealy-James led all players with a career-high nine rebounds for the Fighting Scots. The 6'9'' center also posted a career-best six blocked shots in the contest.
• Kyheim Hall and Rob Agurs each scored a team-high 15 points for the Golden Eagles, while Brandon Williams and Darius Stevens added 10 points apiece.

The Coaches
Edinboro - Pat Cleary (Edinboro '99)

• Cleary is in his second year as head coach of the Fighting Scots, leading Edinboro to an 22-28 record in that time.
• Cleary took over for his mentor Greg Walcavich, who spent 24 years at the helm of the Edinboro program.
• He previously worked as an assistant under Walcavich for 16 years, first as a student aide before becoming a full-time assistant coach.
• Cleary is credited for recruiting many of Edinboro's top contributors in recent years. (More complete bio on pg. 10)

Clarion - Marcess Williams (La Roche '02)
• Williams is in his first seasaon in charge of the Golden Eagles after Clarion's all-time winningest coach Ron Righter retired after last season.
• Williams comes to Clarion after spending nine seasons as head coach at Penn State Beaver, where he led the Lions to at least 20 victories in each of the last six seasons. He owns a career record of 167-113.
• The New Brighton, Pa. native played basketball at La Roche College in Pittsburgh. He is the fourth all-time leading scorer in Redhawks history with 1,359 career points.
• He served as an assistant coach at La Roche from 2003-05 under the late Scott Lang, a 1997 Clarion graduate who played basketball for the Golden Eagles.

Last Time Out
2/14/15 - Edinboro 79, #16 Indiana (Pa.) 77 (OT)

• Indiana (Pa.)'s Jeremy Jeffers drained a 3-pointer as time expired in regulation to send the PSAC Western Division matchup between Edinboro and the 16th-ranked Crimson Hawks into overtime on Saturday afternoon. However, the Fighting Scots outscored IUP 9-7 in the bonus period and Jeffers' 3-point try at the overtime horn was off the mark, as Edinboro pulled the 79-77 upset over the Crimson Hawks at McComb Fieldhouse.
• The win snapped Edinboro's 13-game losing streak to the Crimson Hawks. Prior to Saturday, the Fighting Scots' last win against IUP came during the 2008-09 campaign when Edinboro topped the Crimson Hawks by a score of 83-78 at McComb Fieldhouse.
• The two teams played in their third overtime contest since the 2012-13 season.
• The victory also marked Fighting Scots' second-year head coach Pat Cleary's first triumph over a ranked opponent, while representing Edinboro's first win over a ranked team since defeating 17th-ranked Gannon 67-64 on February 13, 2013.
Jaymon Mason paced the Fighting Scots with 24 markers, one point shy of his career-high. He also grabbed a game- and career-high nine rebounds.
Sheldon Brogdon tallied 16 points off the bench on 5-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-6 shots from behind the arc.
Tommy Scales matched a career-high with 15 markers off the bench for the Fighting Scots, connecting on 6-of-8 field goals in the win.

2/16/15 – Clarion 110, Penn State DuBois 57
• Darius Stevens tallied a career-high 32 points to lead four Golden Eagles in double-figures in a 110-57 rout over Penn State DuBois in a non-conference contest on Monday night.
• Stevens connected on 14-of-21 field goals to go along with a game-high nine rebounds.
• BJ Andrews scored 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while Matt D'Amico and Cameron Grumley added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
• With the game knotted at 24-24 with 8:07 to play in the first half, Clarion closed the opening period on a 27-5 run to give themselves a 46-29 halftime edge.
• The Lions closed the gap to 14 points at 49-35 early in the second half before Clarion used a 33-7 run to blow the game wide open taking an 82-42 lead with 9:14 left to play.
• The Golden Eagles shot a season-high 54.2 percent (45-of-83) from the field in the win.
• Clarion held a 48-26 rebounding advantage, including a 24-6 edge in offensive boards, leading to a 24-5 margin in second chance points.
• The Golden Eagles outscored Penn State DuBois 72-20 in the paint, 46-15 in points off turnovers, and 36-18 in bench points.

Scouting Clarion
• Clarion sits in eighth place in the PSAC Western Divison standings with a 6-13 mark in conference play. With a loss on Wednesday night, the Golden Eagles would be officially eliminated from PSAC Tournament contention.

• Clarion has dropped three of its last four games after posting back-to-back wins over Pitt-Johnstown and Seton Hill.
• The Golden Eagles are led in scoring by BJ Andrews, who is averaging 13.8 points per game, good for 18th in the conference. Andrews was named the PSAC West Freshman of the Year last season.
• Kyheim Hall enters Wednesday's contest as the Golden Eagles' leading rebounder at 6.0 boards per game. The 6'4'' forward ranks third in the conference and 22nd in NCAA Division II at 2.4 steals per contest. A transfer from Olney Central Junior College in his first season with the Golden Eagles, Hall has notched five double-doubles this season, including a 23-point, 15-rebound performance in Clarion's victory over Bloomsburg.
• Darius Stevens is the Golden Eagles' second leading scorer at 12.7 points per contest. A 6'6'' forward, he has scored in double-figures in 17 of 23 games this season, including a career-high 32 point performance on Monday night.
