Box Score (New/Sortable Format) EDINBORO, Pa. (September 11, 2015) – Sophomore
Ashley Mutkus scored with six minutes remaining in the match on Friday to lead Edinboro to a 1-0 win over Shippensburg in a PSAC women's soccer match at Sox Harrison Stadium. The Fighting Scots improved to 3-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in PSAC action, while the Raiders fell to 1-1-1 both overall and in conference.
The win was the first for the Fighting Scots since climbing into the NSCAA Division II national rankings in the 16th position. Shippensburg was looking for its second straight upset of a nationally-ranked team after defeating 11th-ranked East Stroudsburg last week.
While Edinboro had the better scoring opportunities for most of the match, neither team had been able to find the net until Mutkus fired a shot past goalkeeper Leah Roy from 13 yards out into the upper right corner of the net at 83:59. She took a centering pass from
Reilee DuPratt to score her third goal of the season and second straight game-winning goal.
Shippensburg had one of its best opportunities to score almost immediately after that on a free kick. The kick went wide of the net from just over 25 yards out, and was unable to be headed towards the net.
Edinboro finished the day with an 11-4 advantage in shots, including two excellent chances in the first six minutes.
Jansen Hartmann missed on a breakaway as she crossed in front of the net and was just wide of the net to the left side. The senior controlled play throughout the day, however.
Sophomore
Sarah Baskey picked up her first career shutout in goal, finishing with one save. Roy had six saves for the Raiders.
Edinboro has little time to enjoy the victory, as the Fighting Scots return to action on Saturday, hosting Millersville at 5 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium.
