EDINBORO, Pa. (September 18, 2015) – The Edinboro University women's tennis team hosted their first match of the season Thursday, taking care of Westminster, 7-2. The Fighting Scots improve to 3-0 on the year while the Titans move to 2-1.
Edinboro took four out of six in singles matches.
Julia Hellstern defeated Gabby Eaborn in two sets, 6-3 and 6-0.
Roxana Yeh and
Tatiana Batalla also won in two sets, with Yeh beating Stephanie Homitz, 6-1 and 6-2, and Batalla winning against Molly Somora, 6-1 and 6-0.
Laura Lopez beat Sydney Sterner in three sets, winning the first, 6-3, and the third, 10-1.
The Fighting Scots swept the Titans in doubles matches. The Edinboro tandem of
Anastasiya Dasik and Lopez defeated Eaborn and Sydney Sterner, 8-5. Yeh and
Marija Tmusic gave Edinboro another victory against Christijana Vucenovic and Mariah Turiano with an 8-4 score. Hellstern and
Lydia Browne shutout Stephanie Homitz and Molly Somora to complete the sweep, 8-0.
The Fighting Scots' next test will be at the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Mercyhurst University. The event takes place from Saturday, September 19 to Monday, September 21.
