The Game StoryAfter consecutive losses to Clarion and Pitt-Johnstown, Edinboro defeated California (Pa.) on Wednesday, 89-79, to improve to 10-6 and 9-4 in the PSAC. Now the Fighting Scots turn their attention towards Seton Hill for a PSAC road contest on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Edinboro still stands at third place in the PSAC West, behind first-place Indiana (Pa.) and second-place Mercyhurst. Seton Hill, meanwhile, dropped an 81-63 decision at Indiana (Pa.) to fall to 7-10 overall and 5-8 in the PSAC West.
Saturday's game will feature three of the top four scorers in the PSAC. Seton Hill guard Kameron Taylor is second in the PSAC in scoring at 21.5 ppg. while Edinboro guards
Jaymon Mason and
Henri Wade-Chatman are third and fourth, respectively, at 20.7 ppg. and 20.3 ppg. Mason and Wade-Chatman are the highest-scoring tandem in the PSAC at 41.0 ppg. Indiana (Pa.)'s Brandon Norfleet tops the conference at 22.5 ppg.
Wade-Chatman, a 6'2" senior, paced the Scots with 24 points against Cal. The first team All PSAC West preseason selection moved up two spots to 18th in the Edinboro record book in career scoring with 1,195 points. Wade-Chatman is tied for fifth in 3-point field goals per game at 2.4 per game and is 15th in 3-point field goal percentage at 37.3 percent (38-for-102). He ranks tenth in free throw percentage at 82.0 percent (73-for-89).
Mason was second on the team with 19 points and led the Scots with six rebounds and nine assists, tying his career high in assists. The 6'3" redshirt sophomore also had a team high with five 3-pointers, going 5-for-9 from behind the arc. He is sixth in the PSAC in free throw percentage at 86.9 percent (93-for-107). Mason has the second-most free throws made in the conference with 93, trailing Clarion's Rob Agurs, who has 99. He is tied for eighth in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 40.0 percent (36-for-90).
Senior center
Tommy Scales, helped in the win over Cal with 14 points, going 7-for-9 from the field, after playing just 20 minutes before fouling out. At 6'8", Scales is the team's leading rebounder and is eighth in the conference at 7.6 rpg. Scales is fifth in the PSAC in offensive boards at 3.2 rpg. and seventh in field goal percentage at 52.6 percent (81-for-154). He recently notched his fourth double-double against Pitt-Johnstown on January 16 with 15 points and 11 boards
Two other players scored in double digits against the Vulcans. Junior guard
Je'Land Head came off the bench to tally a career-high 10 points and shot 4-for-5 from the field in 13 minutes of play. Sophomore forward
Michael Beck went a perfect 4-for-4 on his way to 10 points.
Edinboro is fourth in the PSAC in scoring at 78.6 ppg. and 15th in points allowed at 77.9 ppg. They are second in the PSAC and 35th in NCAA Division II in free throw percentage at 75.1 percent (287-for-382). While they rank 15th in the conference in field goal percentage at 42.6 percent (426-for-1000), the Fighting Scots are fourth in 3-point field goal percentage at 36.4 percent (118-for-324) and tied for fourth in 3-pointers made at 7.4 3-pointers per game.

Will Marrow, as Edinboro swept the season series with the Griffins. Leading 54-36 in the second half, Edinboro went on a 21-4 run connecting on 5-of-7 3-pointers, to build the lead to The Scots shot 11-for-26 from behind the arc and 50.8 percent (31-of-61) for the game, including 58.1 percent (18-of-31) in the first half. Seton Hill connected on 39.3 percent (22-of-56) of field goals. Edinboro owned advantages of 38-31 in rebounding, 34-18 on points in the paint, and 15-8 on points off turnovers. The Fighting Scots' bench also outscored Seton Hill's reserves, 28-8.
Jaymon Mason posted 11 points, eight assists, and tied with
Casey Baker for a team-high seven rebounds while
Henri Wade-Chatman finished with 10 points.

Je'Land Head added 10 points apiece, a career-high total for Head in just 13 minutes. Beck was 4-for-4 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers. Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor, with Cal ending at 53.2 percent (25-of-47) and Edinboro at 52.4 percent (33-of-63). The Fighting Scots made 14-of-26 3-pointers while the Vulcans were 9-for-19 from beyond the arc. Both teams missed just three free throws, with Edinboro making 9-of-12 and Cal 20-of-23. Cal held the slight edge in rebounding, 29-27. The Fighting Scots committed just seven turnovers while forcing 16 miscues. It led to a 24-8 advantage in points off turnovers. The 89 points were the highest since Edinboro scored 105 points in a double overtime win over Gannon in mid-December.
January 20, 2016 - Indiana (Pa.) 81, Seton Hill 63The Griffins lost their second contest in three games at the Kovalchick Complex as the Crimson Hawks' Brandon Norfleet dropped a season-high 38 points. Trevor Blondin led SHU with 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including 2-of-3 from three-point range. Kameron Taylor had 19 points on 6-of-14 from the floor and Manny Joshua had a season-high 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting. The Griffins shot 41.7 percent while the Crimson Hawks made 52.5 percent. Seton Hill went 6-for-13 in 3-pointers while Indiana (Pa.) 9-for-20. IUP doubled SHU in points in the paint, 32-16, and converted 15 Seton Hill turnovers into 20 points. SHU also trailed in the rebounding category, 36-28.
The Head CoachesEdinboro: Pat Cleary (34-35, 3rd Year)Pat Cleary sat at the right side of Edinboro head men's basketball coach Greg Walcavich for 14 years. On March 26, 2013, Cleary was officially introduced as Edinboro's tenth head coach after Walcavich announced his retirement. Cleary's first season ended with a 10-16 record. Edinboro lost three games to nationally-ranked teams and suffered a number of close losses, including two overtime losses and two defeats at the buzzer. Season number two saw the Fighting Scots make the PSAC playoffs as the number five seed after being picked to finish eighth in the PSAC coaches' poll. Edinboro ended the year with a 14-13 record, falling at Slippery Rock, 64-60, in the first round of the PSAC Playoffs. Among the victories was a 79-77 overtime upset of 16th-ranked Indiana (Pa.). The Crimson Hawks would go on to reach the NCAA Division II national championship game.
Seton Hill: Tony Morocco (170-175, 13th Year)Tony Morocco is in his 13th season as Seton Hill's head coach and has been the program's lone head coach since its inception in 2002. In 2003-04, Seton Hill's inaugural season of men's basketball, Morocco led the Griffins to an impressive 18-8 overall record and second place finish in the American Mideast Conference North Division. Morocco's career includes positions with Saint Francis College, the University of Iowa, Long Beach State University, the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, Saint Vincent College and most recently, Point Park College. In addition, he has coached professional teams including the Rockford Lightning of the Continental Basketball Association and Arecibo of the Puerto Rican Superior League.

Wade-Chatman is 18th all-time at Edinboro with 1,195 career points in just 69 games. He has started every game of his Edinboro career. He is fourth in the PSAC with 20.3 ppg. and 15th in 3-point field goal percentage at 37.3 percent (38-for-102). The 6'2" senior is tenth in the PSAC in free throw percentage at 82.0 percent (73-for-89) and is fourth in the conference in steals at 2.0 steals per game. He is seventh at Edinboro in career 3-pointers made (143) and eighth in career 3-pointers attempted (370). Wade-Chatman tied his career high of 32 points at Lock Haven on January 3. He has scored in double figures in all 16 games and has led the team in scoring in nine contests. Wade-Chatman has scored at least 20 points in nine games, including a stretch where he tallied at least 20 points in five straight contests. He was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week for the week of December 28.
Tommy Scales (C, 6'8", Sr.), a former transfer from Fairmont State, leads the Scots and is eighth in the PSAC in rebounds with 7.6 rpg. Scales is fifth in the conference and 34th in NCAA Division II in offensive boards at 3.2 rpg. He is third on the team in scoring at 12.0 ppg. He is sixth in the PSAC in field goal percentage at 52.6 percent (81-for-154). Scales registered his fourth double-double against Pitt-Johnstown on January 16 with a team-high 15 points and a game-high 11 points. Scales posted consecutive double-doubles at Mercyhurst (15 points, 11 rebounds) and at East Stroudsburg (16 points, 11 boards), and had his third double-double against IUP with 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Scales has led the team in rebounds in nine games.
Jaymon Mason (G, 6'3", R-So.) was named the 2015 PSAC Freshman of the Year, the first Fighting Scot to receive this honor since Dan Grabill in 2002. Mason is third in the PSAC and ranks 30th in Division II in scoring at 20.7 ppg. and currently has 723 career points through 43 games. The 6'3" redshirt sophomore has registered two 30-point games this season, including a career-high 39 points against Kutztown, along with 35 points against Gannon. He has been held to single digits in scoring once this season. Mason is second in the PSAC and 27th in Division II with 93 free throws made while ranking fourth in the PSAC in free throw percentage at 86.9 percent (93-for-107). He is ranked ninth in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 40.0 percent (36-for-90). Mason is 15th in the conference in field goal percentage at 43.9 percent (101-for-230). He has been named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week twice. Mason has led the team in scoring six times and has scored 20-or-more points on seven occasions, most recently against Lock Haven, where he netted 25 points.
Scouting Seton Hill The Griffins come into Saturday with a 7-10 overall record and a 5-8 conference record. They have lost two of their last three games after a stretch where they had won four of five contests. SHU lost at first-place Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday, 81-63. Prior to that, they had lost to Mercyhurst on January 13, 67-48, and beat Gannon last Saturday, 69-62.
Senior guard Kameron Taylor is second in the PSAC and 27th in NCAA Division II in scoring at 21.5 ppg. A week ago, he and Edinboro's
Jaymon Mason were tied for first in scoring in the PSAC at 21.7 ppg. Taylor has the third-most double-doubles in the conference with eight, which is 16th-most in NCAA Division II. That includes a triple-double against Shippensburg on December 5 (27 pts., 13 reb., 11 asts). He is one of only two players in Division II to post a triple double this season. Taylor tops the conference and is 13th nationally in steals at 2.3 per game and 10th nationally with 39 total steals. The preseason All PSAC West selection ranks fifth in the PSAC in rebounds at 8.6 rpg. and second in the conference and fifth nationally in defensive boards at 8.0 rpg.
Despite Taylor's scoring success, the Griffins rank 10th in the PSAC in scoring at 74.6 ppg. They are 13th in points allowed at 75.9 ppg. Seton Hill is third in the PSAC in field goal percentage at 48.9 percent (470-for-961). The Griffins possess the lowest turnover margin in the conference at minus 3.82 and are fourth in most turnovers at 16.7 turnovers per game. The Griffins are ranked fourth in assists at 15.8 assists per game. They rank 10th in the PSAC in rebounds at 36.2 rpg. and are fifth in defensive rebounds at 27.2 rpg.
The Griffins are tied with Bloomsburg for second in the PSAC in blocked shots at 4.88 per game. The big reason behind Seton Hill's blocked shot success has been because of center Spencer Casson. The 6'8" redshirt sophomore leads the PSAC and is second in NCAA Division II (behind West Alabaman's Dakari Mayo) with 57 total blocked shots and 3.6 blocked shots per game. Casson is fifth on the team in scoring at 9.1 ppg. and is second on the team in rebounds and 13th in the PSAC at 7.0 per game. He possesses a team-high 68.2 field goal percentage (60-for-88).
