The Game StoryThe Edinboro University men's basketball team will travel to Gannon on Wednesday with a three-game winning streak and a season sweep of the Golden Knights on their minds. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Hammermill Center. The Fighting Scots own an 11-6 overall record and a 10-4 PSAC West record while the Golden Knights are 4-13 and 3-11, respectively.
A win on Wednesday will give the Scots their first season sweep of the Golden Knights since the 2010-11 season. In their first meeting this season, Edinboro defeated Gannon on December 16 in double overtime, 105-102, at McComb Fieldhouse. Jaymon Mason tallied his first career 30-point game with 35 points and had 10 points in the second overtime period, including two 3-pointers, to lead Edinboro to the victory.
The Fighting Scots recently dropped consecutive games for the first time this season against Clarion and Pitt-Johnstown. They answered by defeating California (Pa.) last Wednesday, 89-79, and winning at Seton Hill on Sunday, 99-88. The pair of wins keeps the Boro in third place in the PSAC West, with Mercyhurst and Indiana (Pa.) tied for first with 11-3 conference records. Earlier this year, the Scots defeated the Lakers, the PSAC West preseason favorites, and fell to the Crimson Hawks, last year's NCAA Division II runners up. Edinboro also defeated West Chester and East Stroudsburg, the top two teams in the PSAC East.
Jaymon Mason was named PSAC West Athlete of the Week for the third time this season for the week of January 18. He is the PSAC's second-leading scorer at 21.6 ppg., behind IUP's Brandon Norfleet, who averages 22.5 ppg. Against Seton Hill, Mason netted a game-high 36 points, just three points shy of matching his career high, for his third game this season in which he's scored over 35 points. He went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line, which put him atop the PSAC and 26th in NCAA Division II in free throws made with 100. He also ranks fifth in the conference and 34th in Division II in free throw percentage at 87.7 percent (100-for-114). He ranks eighth in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 40.6 percent (39-for-96).
Senior guard
Henri Wade-Chatman scored 20 points at Seton Hill, which moved him up the Edinboro all-time career scoring list to 16th with 1,215 points in 70 games. The 6'2" guard ranks fourth in the PSAC in scoring at 20.3 ppg. He and Mason make up the PSAC's highest-scoring tandem at a combined 42.8 ppg., while both are tied for seventh in the conference in 3-point field goals per game at 2.3. per game. Wade-Chatman is eighth in the PSAC in free throw percentage at 80.8 percent (80-for-99) and ranks fourth in steals at 1.9 steals per game.
Senior center
Tommy Scales netted a career-high 23 points against the Griffins, shooting 10-for-13 from the floor, and finished with six boards. The former transfer from Fairmont State is fifth in the PSAC in field goal percentage at 54.5 percent (91-for-167) and eighth in rebounds at 7.5 rpg. The 6.8" center is fifth in the conference with 3.1 offensive boards per game.
Edinboro is fourth in the PSAC in scoring at 79.8 ppg. and are 15th in allowing 78.5 ppg. Gannon, meanwhile, is last in the 18-team conference in scoring at 62.4 ppg., but are fourth in points allowed at 70.5 ppg. The Fighting Scots are ranked second, behind Pitt-Johnstown, and 27th in Division II in free throw percentage at 75.2 percent (309-for-411) and fourth in 3-point field goal percentage at 36.7 percent (123-for-335). The Fighting Scots average the fewest turnovers in the PSAC at 12.4 turnovers per game and are eighth in the conference with a plus 1.18 turnover margin.

Jaymon Mason knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers within 14 seconds to give the Scots the lead for good at 103-100 with 1:48 left. Mason would finish with 35 points, including 10 in the second overtime. He was 9-for-19 from the floor and made 14-of-15 free throws. He added seven assists without a turnover, and pulled down six rebounds in 48 minutes played.
Henri Wade-Chatman added 24 points, going 10-for-11 from the free throw line, while
Tommy Scales registered 16 points.
Sheldon Brogdon came off the bench to tally 16 markers and went a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. Edinboro shot 43.3 percent (29-of-67) from the floor while Gannon went 54.2 percent (39-of-72). Though the Golden Knights held the advantage in rebounds (42-35) and points in the paint (54-28), the Fighting Scots took control at the charity stripe, connecting on 39-of-47 free throws, while Gannon shot 18-of-23. Edinboro also registered 22 points off of 15 Gannon turnovers, while the Golden Knights could only get eight points from six Scots turnovers.

That included a 69.6 percent figure (16-of-23) in the second half. Seton Hill wasn't far behind at 58.2 percent (32-of-55), including 63.0 percent (17-of-27) in the first half. The Griffins made 9-of-19 3-pointers compared to 5-of-11 for the Scots. The contest featured three of the top four scorers in the PSAC in Edinboro's

Jaymon Mason and Seton Hill's Kameron Taylor. Wade-Chatman and Mason, along with
Tommy Scales, combined for 79 points. Mason led the way with 36 markers, going 13-for-23 from the floor including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, and grabbing a game-high seven boards. He was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Scales set a new career high with 23 points, shooting 10-for-13 from the field, while pulling down six rebounds. Wade-Chatman netted 20 points and led the team with five assists. The Fighting Scots were able to dominate inside, holding a 30-19 advantage on the glass and outscoring Seton Hill in the paint, 48-30. Taylor, who entered the game as the conference's second-leading scorer, finished with just 14 points in 25 minutes while battling foul trouble. Trevor Blondin led the Griffins with 21 points.
1/23/16 - Gannon 71, Slippery Rock 66 at Hammermill CenterGannon out-rebounded Slippery Rock, the ninth-best rebounding team in NCAA Division II, by a 34-23 count on their way to snapping a three-game losing streak. Jean Yves Toupane scored 18 points in the final six minutes en route to a game-high 27 points. He went 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 18 seconds to finish 15-for-16 from the charity stripe, the most free throws made by a Golden Knight since 2004. Toupane also collected a game-high seven rebounds. C.J. Asuncion-Byrd joined Toupane in double figures with 14 points.
The Head CoachesEdinboro: Pat Cleary (35-35, 3rd Year)Pat Cleary sat at the right side of Edinboro head men's basketball coach Greg Walcavich for 14 years. On March 26, 2013, Cleary was officially introduced as Edinboro's tenth head coach after Walcavich announced his retirement. Cleary's first season ended with a 10-16 record. Edinboro lost three games to nationally-ranked teams and suffered a number of close losses, including two overtime losses and two defeats at the buzzer. Season number two saw the Fighting Scots make the PSAC playoffs as the number five seed after being picked to finish eighth in the PSAC coaches' poll. Edinboro ended the year with a 14-13 record, falling at Slippery Rock, 64-60, in the first round of the PSAC Playoffs. Among the victories was a 79-77 overtime upset of 16th-ranked Indiana (Pa.). The Crimson Hawks would go on to reach the NCAA Division II national championship game.
Gannon: John T. Reilly (188-118, 11th year; Career Record: 420-263, 23rd year)Reilly is in his 11th season as the head coach at Gannon University in 2015-16. The longest-tenured coach in program history, Reilly led his Golden Knights to win the 2015 PSAC championship and made an NCAA tournament appearance. He also earned his 400th career victory last season and became Gannon's all-time winningest men's basketball coach. He has had four 20-win seasons and one 30-win season while at Gannon. They have qualified for six conference tournaments and four NCAA tournaments. Prior to his arrival at Gannon, Reilly spent 12 seasons as the head coach at Brescia University. He compiled a 232-145 record at Brescia.

Jaymon Mason (G, 6'3", R-So.) was named PSAC Athlete of the Week for the third time this season for the week of January 18. Mason is second in the PSAC and ranks 28th in Division II in scoring at 21.6 ppg. and currently has 759 career points through 44 games. The 6'3" redshirt sophomore registered his third 30-point game at Seton Hill on Sunday with a game-high 36 points. He had a career-high 39 points against Kutztown and netted 35 points in Edinboro's first game against Gannon. He has been held to single digits in scoring once this season. Mason leads the PSAC and is 26th in Division II with 100 free throws made while ranking fifth in the PSAC in free throw percentage at 87.7 percent (100-for-114). He is ranked eighth in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage at 40.6 percent (39-for-96). Mason is 15th in the conference in field goal percentage at 45.1 percent (114-for-253). Mason has led the team in scoring seven times and has scored 20-or-more points on eight occasions. Last year, Mason was named the 2015 PSAC Freshman of the Year, the first Fighting Scot to receive this honor since Dan Grabill in 2002.

Scouting GannonGannon, the defending PSAC champions, defeated Slippery Rock on Saturday, 71-66, to end a three-game losing streak and improve to 4-13 and 3-11 in the PSAC West. The Golden Knights have lost 11 of their last 13 games, with their only other win in that stretch coming against Mansfield.
Head coach John T. Reilly is in his 11th season as Gannon's head coach. After defeating Indiana (Pa.), 69-66, in the PSAC Championship last year, the second under Reilly, the team lost five seniors to graduation, all of whom were the top-five leading scorers for the Golden Knights. This included guards Girbran Smith and Adam Blazek, who were Gannon's only double-digit scorers, averaging 14.4 ppg.and 14.1 ppg., respectively.
Senior forward Jean Yves Toupane is the team's leading scorer and ranks 12th in the PSAC at 15.1 ppg. Toupane ranks ninth in the conference in rebounds at 7.1 rpg and 14th in field goal percentage at 45.8 percent (93-for-203). He and and junior guard Kevin Kuteyi both average double figures in points for Gannon. Kuteyi ranks second in the PSAC in 3-point field goal percentage at 46.6 percent (34-for-73).
Gannon ranks last in the PSAC in scoring at 62.4 ppg, but are fourth in points allowed at 70.5 ppg. The Golden Knights are 16th in the conference in field goal percentage at 41.2 percent (384-for-932) and fourth in free throw percentage at 73.0 percent (211-for-289).
