The Game Story

  • The Edinboro University men's basketball team looks to shake off a pair of PSAC road defeats from last weekend with a win over Daemen in a pre-Thanksgiving matinee game on Wednesday, November 23 at 1:00 p.m. in McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots are 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC West. The Wildcats enter their first road game of the year at 3-0. Admission to the game is free of charge.
  • The Fighting Scots look to avenge an 88-79 defeat to the Wildcats on December 12, 2015, while looking to deny Wildcats head coach Mike MacDonald's 300th from reaching his 300th career win. MacDonald holds a 299-246 career record and is 43-20 in just his third season with Daemen. He is in his 20th season as a head coach after holding down head coaching jobs at Division I Canisius and Division III Medaille.
  • Edinboro, after starting the season with wins over Thiel and Lake Erie, dropped their opening PSAC contests at eastern opponents Millersville on Saturday, 79-71, and Shippensburg, 105-73, on Sunday. The latter marked the Fighting Scots' largest margin of defeat since a 102-69 defeat to 11th-ranked East Stroudsburg on December 18, 2013, and the first time they allowed over 100 points since a 105-102 win over Gannon on December 16, 2015. It was also the most points allowed by Edinboro since giving up 114 points to Urbana on November 14, 2011.
  • Redshirt junior guard Jaymon Mason became the 28th Fighting Scot in history Saturday to reach 1,000 career points after tallying his second straight double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. He is 28th all-time with 1,011 points, putting him 56 points away from passing Jose Davis for 27th all-time. He accomplished this feat in 55 career games, becoming the third-fastest Edinboro player to reach the 1K milestone. Only Tyrone Mason, Jaymon's father, and Kenny Tate got to 1,000 points faster, with both making it in 51 games. The 6'3" guard also passed former teammate Henri Wade-Chatman Saturday for tenth all-time in career free throws made with 289. He is fifth all-time with an .843 career free throw percentage (289-343).
  • Jaymon Mason leads Edinboro and is seventh in the PSAC with 19.3 ppg, while ranking second on the team with 5.8 rpg. Junior center Andre Frederick, a transfer from Division I Robert Morris, leads the team and is tied for fourth in the PSAC averaging 8.8 rpg., while shooting a team-high 55.6 percent from the floor. He averages 20.0 minutes as a reserve. Senior forward Mikael Anderson is second on the team with 11.0 ppg.

All-Time Series vs. Daemen
  • Edinboro leads Daemen, 9-1: The Fighting Scots won the first nine meetings between the two teams before Daemen claimed an 88-79 win in Amherst, N.Y. The meeting was the first between the two schools since the 1996-97 season.
  • First Meeting: 1978-79 – Edinboro 107, Daemen 85
  • Last Meeting: 2015-16 – Daemen 88, Edinboro 79

Last Meeting
12/10/16 – Daemen 88, Edinboro 79 at Daemen College
  • Meeting for the first time since the 1996-97 season, Daemen claimed its first win in the series while spoiling Henri Wade-Chatman's 1,000-point celebration.
  • Wade-Chatman led Edinboro with 29 points, notching his 1,000th-point on a 3-pointer in the first half, but the Wildcats used a 17-3 run in the second half to pull away.
  • The Fighting Scots led 42-37 at the half after shooting 59.3 percent from the floor. The second half was a different story, as they shot just 28.2 percent.
  • With Edinboro still leading 46-45, Daemen went on the 17-3 run to take a 62-49 lead with 12:56 remaining.  The closest Edinboro would get to Daemen's lead the rest of the game was 78-72 with 2:33 left when Jaymon Mason made a pair of free throws to cap an 8-0 run for the Scots. Edinboro would make just one basket the rest of the way.
