ERIE, Pa. (February 20, 2016) - The Edinboro University women's tennis team opened their spring season Saturday with a 5-4 win over Walsh at Westwood Racquet Club. The victory marked Edinboro's first win over Walsh under head coach
Lee Underwood, who has led both the men's and women's program since they were revived in 2010. The Fighting Scots also avenged a 9-0 loss to the Cavaliers when they met last season.
"Two big wins for us as this is the first time since I've been here we have won," said Underwood, referencing both the men's and women's teams defeating Walsh Saturday. Last year women lost, 9-0, I believe and men lost, 7-2, last year."
Edinboro and Walsh split the singles competition.
Laura Lopez won her match against Snezhana Kiseleva with matching 6-1 scores.
Roxana Yeh beat Gabriela Laguna-Leon, 6-0 and 7-6, while Tatiana Batalla defeated Arina Kravitz, 6-4 and 6-2.

Marija Tmusic lost their matches to Sofya Logonuva, Daria Bondareva, and Asia Harris, respectively.
The Fighting Scots took two out of three doubles matches to seal the victory. Lopez and Yeh teamed up to beat Kiseleva and Laguna-Leon, 8-1, while Hellstern and
Lydia Browne edged out a 9-8 victory over Harris and Kravitz. Dasik and Tmusic fell to Logonuva and Bondareva, 8-3, in their match.
Edinboro continues its season on Sunday when they host LeMoyne at 4:00 p.m. at Westwood Racquet Club.
