Fighting Scots Open Conference Play this Weekend Traveling to PSAC Foes Seton Hill and Gannon

EDINBORO, Pa. (March 24, 2016) – The Edinboro University softball team will open up PSAC play on Friday, March 25, traveling to Seton Hill for a 2:30 p.m. DH start before taking on local conference rival Gannon on Saturday, March 26 with a DH start of 3 p.m. The Fighting Scots return to action this weekend after a nearly two-week long break since returning from a 12-game spring trip in Clermont, Florida. Edinboro amassed a 5-7 record while playing a competitive schedule down south.

Friday's contest with Seton Hill was scheduled to be the home opener for the Fighting Scots but due to unfavorable weather forecasted for the Edinboro area, the two teams have flipped home games. Edinboro will now host the Griffins for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9, at Gierlak Gardens.

Edinboro was 1-2-1 against the Griffins last season while finishing 1-3-0 against the Golden Knights.

Seton Hill enters Friday's doubleheader with a 7-13 record and losers of four straight games. Friday's doubleheader will also serve as the PSAC opener for the Griffins, who finished as the second seed in the West last season.

The Golden Knights will open up their PSAC season a day prior to Saturday's doubleheader with the Fighting Scots, taking on Mercyhurst. Gannon is currently an even 8-8 to begin the season, but have dropped three of its last four contests. The Golden Knights claimed the third seed in the PSAC West last season, eventually falling to California (Pa.) in the PSAC Championship.

Brooke Callaghan is off to a fast start to the season for the Fighting Scots, leading the squad with a .541 batting average, 20 hits and 12 RBIs. Callaghan led all returners with .339 batting average last season. The redshirt junior is also tied for the team-lead with one home run. In addition, she has recorded three doubles and a triple.

After leading Edinboro in home runs last season, senior Haley Struebing continues to display her power, notching a team-high six extra base hits down south, including being tied for the team-lead with one home run.
