HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (March 7, 2016) – Despite splitting the singles competition against Chowan on Monday, Edinboro women's tennis could only come away with one victory in the doubles competition as the Hawks edged the Fighting Scots, 5-4. The defeat marks just the Boro's second loss of the year to drop to 7-2, while Chowan improved to 9-1.

Roxana Yeh won her singles match against Jessica De Backre by matching 6-3 scores to improve to 9-2 while Tatiana Batalla beat Natalia Andrade, 6-1 and 6-4, to move to 10-2 on the year. Laura Lopez supplied Edinboro's third singles victory against Angelique Gouin, 6-1 and 6-2, but Chowan would take the remaining three matches. Julia Hellstern fell to 9-5 on the season after a 6-0 and 6-3 defeat to Polina Novachuk. Anastasiya Dasik lost to Victori Smolchenkova, 6-4 and 6-4, while Marija Tmusic fell to Cynthia Carrier, 6-2 and 6-4.

Hellstern and Lydia Browne edged Roxana Daneshjoo and Anna Mahkneva, 9-7, as the tandem improve to 7-4 on the year. The Hawks, however, took the last two doubles matches. Dasik and Tmusic dropped an 8-4 decision to Novachuk and Smolchenkova as Yeh and Lopez fell to Gouin and Carrier, 8-3.

Edinboro plays again on Tuesday for the second of their four-match spring break road trip against Belmont Abbey at 8:00 p.m.
