EDINBORO, Pa. (April 13, 2016) – If you love softball, we've got you covered all weekend long. After mother nature wreaked havoc on the schedule last week, the Edinboro University softball team will return to action on Thursday, April 14, traveling to Slippery Rock before finally making its home debut on Friday, April 15, when they host #10 California (Pa.). Friday's home opener is part of a stretch of four conference doubleheaders in four days as the Fighting Scots makeup games lost due to unfavorable weather.
Head coach
Dan Gierlak's squad is 8-12 overall and 2-4 in the PSAC West.
On Saturday and Sunday, the Fighting Scots will host a pair of local rivals for twinbills. On Saturday, April 16, Edinboro will host Gannon with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. and on Sunday, April 17, the Fighting Scots will play a makeup doubleheader with the Mercyhurst Lakers starting at 1 p.m. at Gierlak Gardens.
This will be Edinboro's first meeting of the season with both Slippery Rock and Mercyhurst. Earlier this season, the Fighting Scots swept a twinbill with Lady Knights for the first time since 2013.
Edinboro will be looking for redemption when they square off with the #10 Vulcans as Cal swept the Fighting Scots in the first meeting.
Brooke Callaghan continues her impressive season, leading the PSAC with a .472 batting average. The redshirt junior has recorded team-highs in multiple categories including hits (25), RBIs (14), home runs (3), and stolen bases (11).
Abby Sotter is coming off a dominant performance in the circle for the Fighting Scots, pitching a complete game victory against Indiana (Pa.) last Tuesday afternoon. Sotter gave up just one run while striking out four batters en route to earning PSAC West Pitcher of the Week honors.
Freshman
Carley Nasca leads all Edinboro pitchers with three wins and a 1.39 ERA.
