WEST CHESTER, Pa. – It was the way the Edinboro women's tennis team wanted to start their dual match season, with a win. The Fighting Scots picked up a 5-4 win on the over West Chester in a non-conference matchup. It was interim head coach Kody Duncan's first win.

"I am proud of how the women fought," said Duncan after the victory, "Being a woman down, they showed grit to pull out a regional win." Edinboro traveled with only five women, forfeiting at the #3 doubles and #6 singles spots to give West Chester a 2-0 to start the match.

With doubles up first, Laura Lopez and Tatiana Batalla Trabal defeated Rylee Power and Shannon Nixon of the Rams, 8-4. Not to be out done was Roxana Yeah and Jelena Vucenovic took down Bracyn Towler and Julia Mowrey, 8-5.

With the match tied at 2-2 with singles starting, Edinboro and West Chester made it a best of five singles matches to determine the winner. Edinboro would take a 4-3 lead after Marija Tmusic picked up a win at #5, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 over Mowrey. Even though it was a straight sets win, it was one of the last matches on as Yeh clinched the win for the Scots, 6-3, 7-5.

Edinboro remains on the road this weekend with a match on Saturday, October 7 at Millersville. Play is scheduled to start at 12 noon.
