Fischer Hits Five 3-Pointers in 83-63 Win Over Millersville

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Edinboro women's basketball team defeated Millersville on Saturday, 83-63 at McComb Fieldhouse, with the Fighting Scot bench outscoring the Marauder bench, 31-11. With the win, the Fighting Scots improved to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in the PSAC, while the Marauders fell to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

In 15 minutes of action off the bench, freshman guard Sarah Fischer scored a team-high 15 points, as she connected on 5-of-7 3-point shots. Ayana Vaughn scored seven points, Allison Thompson went for six points and eight rebounds, and Cheniya Sharpe scored three points and brought down a game-high 14 boards.

In the first quarter, Millersville led for the majority of the frame. Redshirt junior Kendra Bamberger gave the Marauders an early 4-0 lead following a layup and two converted free throws. Ciara Rosten would get Edinboro on the board shortly thereafter with a layup.

With just over four minutes remaining in the quarter and down 10-5, Michelle Jahn would connect on the first 3-pointer of the contest, cutting the Marauder lead to two. With the 3-pointer, Jahn moved into a tie for eighth place on the all-time 3-point field goals made list with 139.

While the Fighting Scots trailed for the majority of the first quarter, Jahn would score two free throws with just over two minutes remaining for an 11-10 advantage. But the Boro would head into the second quarter down 18-16.

Edinboro's bench came alive in the second quarter. As a team, the Fighting Scots scored 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting, and held Millersville to 10 points. But the Boro bench would be responsible for 17 of those points. Thompson would score back-to-back shots, which cut the Millersville lead to one at 21-20.

Over a minute later, Jahn would make her second 3-pointer of the game, and put Edinboro on top 23-21. With her 140th made 3-point field goal, she again moved up the career list. She is in sole possession of eighth place, and while also moving into a tie for seventh all-time.


Sharpe would add to Edinboro's lead, as she made a jumper, followed by Fischer hitting consecutive three-point shots from beyond the arc. With under five minutes remaining until halftime, Michaela Barnes would put the Fighting Scots up by 10. They would hold a double-digit lead for the rest of the contest, and led by as much as 27 points.

Edinboro shot 38.4 percent (28-of-73) on the day, while holding Millersville to 35.3 percent (18-of-51).

Rosten scored 14 points for Edinboro on 6-of-11 shots. The 6'2" senior forward also grabbed six rebounds, had three steals and blocked three shots before fouling out. Barnes tacked on 12 points, as she made 6-of-8 free throws, while Jontay Walton contributed 11 points and four assists.

For the Marauders, Bamberger scored a game-high 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, while going 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Courtney Dimoff tacked on 14 points, and Alayah Hall contributed 11.

Edinboro is back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. as they host Shippensburg in a conference double-header. The Raiders went 24-7 a season ago for the best record in the PSAC East.
