ERIE, Pa. – The Edinboro University women's tennis team opened up conference action with a 6-3 victory over California(Pa.) at the Westwood Racquet Club on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, their third in a row, the Fighting Scots improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC while the Vulcans suffered their fifth consecutive loss to fall to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in conference competition.
The Fighting Scots took four of six singles competitions and two of three in doubles play.
Sophomore
Tatiana Batalla Trabal recorded her team-high ninth victory of the year, defeating Cal's Katie Olson by scores of 6-1 & 6-3 to improve to 9-5. Senior
Anastasiya Dasik took down the Vulcan's Emily Suckling via a 6-0 first set victory before Suckling retired in the second set to improve to 8-3.
Junior
Roxana Yeh (7-2) and sophomore
Jelena Vucenovic (8-4) also picked up singles victories by scores of 6-0 & 6-2 and 6-1 & 6-0 respectively.
The doubles teams of Batalla Trabal /
Julia Hellstern and Dasik / Vucenovic both scored victories in doubles play to improve to 8-3 on the season. Batalla Trabal and Hellstern took down Cal's Olson and Liz Wohar by a score of 8-3 while Dasik and Vucenovic shutout the Vulcan's Suckling and Charlie Gallagher, 8-0.
The Fighting Scots are right back on the courts tomorrow afternoon, travelling to Indiana(Pa.) for a conference match against the Crimson Hawks at 3:30 p.m.
