Women’s Tennis Falls in Close Contest at Charleston (WV) on Friday Night

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (March 31, 2017) – The Edinboro University women's tennis team opened their two-match road trip to West Virginia on Friday evening with a 5-4 defeat to Charleston. The Fighting Scots split the singles matches with the Golden Eagles, but UC's two doubles wins proved to be the deciding factor.

Head coach Lee Underwood's team dropped to 7-4, while Charleston improved to 17-1. Charleston and Edinboro were ranked third and tied for tenth, respectively, in the latest ITA Atlantic Region Poll.

The team of Julia Hellstern and Tatiana Batalla prevailed for Edinboro in the second doubles spot, beating Silvana Slusarciuc and Jackie Bakos by an 8-5 score. Roxana Yeh, Anastasiya Dasik and Jelena Vucenovic all posted singles wins at the fourth, fifth and sixth spots, respectively. Despite several close sets in the top three singles matches, the Fighting Scots came up on the short end of each of them.

Edinboro wraps up its southern trip on Saturday with a matinee contest at West Virginia Wesleyan, starting at 12:00 p.m.
