  • The Short Story:  Slippery Rock celebrated Homecoming with an impressive offensive display to hand Edinboro a 59-28 defeat, snapping a two-game winning streak in the series for the Fighting Scots. The Rock maintained its lead in the PSAC West as Roland Rivers threw for 403 yards and 5 TDs to lead the highest-scoring offense in the PSAC. GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A wild first quarter saw the teams combine for 31 points in the first quarter, with SRU leading 17-14 after 15 minutes. Edinboro jumped out to a 7-0 lead just three plays into the game. Walter Fletcher's 56-yard run gave the Fighting Scots the ball at the SRU 14, and two plays later Jarrod Kellar tossed a 14-yard TD pass to A.J. Turner.
  • The lead was short-lived, as Slippery Rock scored the next 17 points. They knotted the score at 7-7 with a 12-play, 70-yard march on their first possession. It marked the fourth straight week that Edinboro allowed a touchdown on the opponent's opening drive. Chacar Berry accounted for the score on a one-yard run.
  • Edinboro was forced to punt on its next two possessions, and The Rock put points on the board following each one. They needed just two plays to cover 79 yards and make it 14-7 with 7:35 left in the quarter. After a 57-yard pass from Roland Rivers to Mike Merhaut, Wes Hills scored on a 22-yard run on the next play. The second score came on a 36-yard field goal by Jake Chapla with 3:10 left in the quarter for a 17-7 lead.
  • The scoring wasn't done in the quarter, as Edinboro took the ensuing kickoff and drove 46 yards in four plays. Kyle Galyk gave Edinboro a short field with a 44-yard kickoff return. After Kellar hit Fletcher for a 12-yard for a first down on 3rd-and-10, Fletcher burst into the end zone from 33 yards out on the very next play for his 10th TD of the season.
  • Unfortunately, SRU would tack on 28 points in the second quarter, breaking the record of 27 points by an opponent in the second quarter. They would score on their first three possessions of the quarter to make it six straight possessions to start the game as they went up 38-14 midway through the second quarter. All three scores were courtesy of Jermaine Wynn Jr., who caught 3 TD passes from Roland. The first capped an 11-play, 68-yard march that ended with a 32-yard Roland-to-Wynn hookup.
  • After a three-and-out for Edinboro, The Rock drove 82 yards in just seven plays, with Rivers throwing to Wynn for the final 29 yards and a 31-14 lead. The pair would combine just 54 seconds later after an interception was returned to the Boro 24. On the very next play, the duo hooked up for a 24-yard score with 8:01 left in the second quarter.
  • The two teams combined for their third score in 67 seconds on the following play, marking three TDs in five plays from scrimmage. Kellar found Ta'Nauz Gregory streaking down the left sideline, and the junior receiver outran several SRU defenders to complete a 75-yard TD pass.
  • That closed the score to 38-21, but Slippery Rock would score one more time to take a 45-21 lead at the half. Taking over at their own 25 following an Edinboro punt, The Rock went 75 yards in six plays. Rivers threw for 30 yards to Austin Scott on a 3rd-and-7 play, and two plays later Rivers scored on a 20-yard run with 2:32 left in the half.
  • The scoring wasn't over in the third quarter, either. Slippery Rock took the second half kickoff and put together an 8-play, 75-yard scoring drive. Rivers was again involved, throwing 11 yards to Berry for a 52-21 lead with 10:50 remaining in the period.
  • Edinboro answered with an impressive 11-play, 73-yard drive that ate up over five minutes. Fletcher played a large role in the drive, carrying four times for 30 yards and catching a pair of passes for 10 yards. The Fighting Scots faced a 4th-and-goal from the eight, but Gregory made an outstanding catch in the back corner of the end zone to close the gap to 52-28.
  • Slippery Rock came right back with a 65-yard drive for what ended up being the final score of the game. Rivers was involved in every play but one, with the junior throwing his fifth touchdown pass from 35 yards out to Henry Litwin for a 59-28 lead with 2:31 remaining in the third quarter.  .
