Jackson, Eldredge Record Double-Doubles As Edinboro Sweeps Clarion, 3-0

  • The Short Story: The Edinboro volleyball team opened the weekend with a 3-0 sweep over Clarion at McComb Fieldhouse. The Fighting Scots snapped a three-game skid in the process. Edinboro improved to 9-9 overall while Clarion fell t0 14-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Clarion held a 12-9 lead in the first set before Edinboro went on a 9-2 to take an 18-14 lead.
  • The Golden Eagles would tie the score up at 20-20 and 24-24.
  • A Clarion service error and a kill by Cierah Jackson gave the Fighting Scots 26-24.
  • In the second set, Edinboro jumped out to a 4-1 lead before Clarion would knot the score at 5-5.
  • Edinboro scored 10-straight points and forced Clarion to use both of their timeouts to take a 15-5 lead and never looked back.
  • Both teams traded the next 20 points before a Clarion attack error gave the Fighting Scots a 25-15 set win and a 2-0 match lead.
  • Most of the third set went back and forth with Edinboro calling a timeout with the Golden Eagles leading 11-9.
  • The score was tied 12 more times in the third set but a kill from Alicia Eldredge and another Clarion attack error gave Edinboro the 27-25 set win and the match 3-0.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Jackson recorded her first double-double of the season. She had a match-high 16 kills to go along with 11 digs. The sophomore also recorded three service aces and an assist.
  • Eldredge joined Jackson with a double-double, her fourth of the season. The freshman dished out 26 assists and 21 digs. It marked the first time this season a Fighting Scot had a 20-20 performance.
  • Five different Fighting Scots had 10+ digs on the night. Besides Jackson and Eldredge, Megan Screptock (13), Molly Breier (11), and Jordan Van Oss (10) all reached the double-figure mark.
  • Edinboro held Clarion to a .061 hitting percentage. The Golden Eagles had a -.098 attack percentage in the second set and were neutral in the third set at .000.
  • Edinboro lead in kills (36-35), service aces (7-2) and blocks (7-6). The two teams each had 34 assists.
  • The Fighting Scots are now 58-26 all-time against Clarion.
NEXT FOR THE FIGHTING SCOTS
  • Edinboro is back in action on Saturday afternoon at home when they host Indiana(Pa.) at 1:00 p.m. The Crimson Hawks dropped their match against Slippery Rock, 3-0 on Friday evening. Last season, the Fighting Scots defeated top-seeded IUP in the first-round of the PSAC tournament, 3-2.
