The Game Story
  • After three straight road games, Edinboro returns home for the first time since November 20, hosting a surging East Stroudsburg team. The Fighting Scots come in with a 3-3 record and are 1-1 in the PSAC West. The Warriors are riding a five-game winning streak and are now 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC East.
  • Saturday will mark Edinboro's annual Holiday Cards for Heroes promotion. Fans will be able to sign holiday cards for military personnel in the lobby of McComb Fieldhouse throughout the day.
  • The meeting with East Stroudsburg is a rematch of last year's PSAC semifinal contest, won by the Warriors, 98-75. ESU would go on to win the PSAC Tournament, then capture the Atlantic Regional to advance to the Elite Eight.
  • Edinboro comes off one of the most up-and-down set of games in recent memory. With second team All-PSAC West performer Anthony Coleman out with an injury, the Fighting Scots suffered an 88-37 loss at West Chester last Saturday. The 37 points represented the fewest points since a 37-26 loss to California(Pa.) during the 1966-67 season. The 51-point margin of defeat was the most since a 131-72 defeat to Indiana(Pa.) in 1955-56.
  • The next day, Edinboro jumped out to a 47-27 halftime lead at Bloomsburg. The contest would eventually go into overtime, but DeAnthony Owens' 3-pointer with 33 seconds remaining gave the Fighting Scots the lead, and Edinboro would eventually prevail, 97-94.
  • Sophomore guard Jaryn Simpson comes off a career-high 34-point effort at Bloomsburg, and has now scored 20-or-more points in three of the first six games. Owens added a season-high 27 points.
  • East Stroudsburg opened the season with back-to-back losses to Saint Augustine's and Shaw, but has since run off five straight wins, all by at least 15 points. The Warriors are tied for eighth in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region poll. ESU finished with a 27-6 record a year ago, winning the PSAC and Atlantic Region championships to advance to the Elite Eight. They were picked to finish second in the PSAC East in the coaches' preseason poll.
  • Edinboro comes in averaging 70.5 ppg., good for 15th in the PSAC. The Fighting Scots allow 75.7 ppg., which ranks 12th. East Stroudsburg is fifth in scoring offense (81.4 ppg.) and sixth in scoring defense (69.3 ppg.).
  • Head coach Pat Cleary was named the PSAC West Coach of the Year after leading Edinboro to an 18-11 record a year ago. It marked the finest year of his five-year reign after Edinboro had been picked to finish eighth in the Western Division. The Fighting Scots would finish 13-9 in PSAC action, good for fourth place. They went on to defeat Pitt-Johnstown in the opening round, followed by an upset of top-seeded Indiana(Pa.) in the quarterfinals.
