Schoffstall Earns At-Large Bid to Nationals at 174 lbs.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The NCAA today announced the 47 at-large selections for the 2018 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Among those selections was Edinboro's Ty Schoffstall. The redshirt senior has earned a spot in the 33-man field at 174 lbs.

Schoffstall will make his second appearance at Nationals after winning the EWL title a year ago. This year, the native of Pottsville, Pa. reached the finals before losing to Dean Sherry of Rider, with Sherry garnering the lone EWL automatic qualifier at 174 lbs.

Schoffstall missed the early part of the season with an injury but has returned to post a 21-3 record with 3 falls, a technical fall, and 6 major decisions. He has a 73-24 career record. A year ago, Schoffstall went 1-2 at Nationals.

The selection of Schoffstall gives Edinboro five wrestlers at the NCAA Division I National Championships. Sean Russell (125 lbs.), Korbin Myers (133 lbs.), Andrew Shomers (157 lbs.), and Billy Miller (hwt.) earned automatic qualifier berths at Saturday's EWL Championships.

The at-large selections were made by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee using the following selection criteria: head-to-head competition, quality wins, results against common opponents, winning percentage, rating percentage index, coaches ranking and qualifying event placement.

The 2018 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships takes place at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland March 15-17.
