Russell Leads Trio of Seeded Wrestlers into Nationals

Sean Russell is seeded 11th at 125 lbs.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA released the brackets for the upcoming NCAA Division I Wrestling National Championships on Wednesday night. Edinboro has a contingent of five wrestlers headed to Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena to compete from March 15-17, with three of those wrestlers seeded.

Sean Russell is Edinboro's top seeded wrestler. The redshirt junior is seeded 11th at 125 lbs. and is making his third appearance at Nationals after winning his third straight EWL title. A year ago, Russell was seeded seventh and went on to finish seventh to earn All-American honors for the first time. Russell comes in with a 30-5 record and will face American's Gage Curry (22-14) in the first round.

Billy Miller is seeded 13th at heavyweight. He won his second EWL title to earn his third trip to Nationals. He was seeded 12th a year ago. The redshirt junior takes a 16-4 record into his first-round bout against Shawn Streck of Purdue (28-13).

The final seeded Fighting Scot is Korbin Myers. Seeded 14th at 133 lbs., Myers is making his second trip to Nationals and is now a two-time EWL champion. The redshirt sophomore has a 29-6 record and will face Rutger's Scott Delvecchio of Rutgers (21-7) in the first round.

Edinboro's other two national qualifiers are unseeded. Andrew Shomers has a 29-6 record after finishing second at 157 lbs. at the EWL's. The redshirt sophomore faces 10th-seeded Markus Scheidel of Columbia (24-2) in his first-ever match at Nationals.

Redshirt senior Ty Schoffstall is making his second trip to Nationals after placing second at the EWL Championships at 174 lbs. He has a 21-3 record going into his match with eighth-seeded Jadaen Bernstein of Navy (22-5).
