Offense Comes Alive in Second Half but Fighting Scots Fall at Shippensburg, 11-6

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Edinboro offense came alive in the second half, but it was a little too late as the women's lacrosse team suffered an 11-6 loss at Shippensburg. The loss leaves the Fighting Scots at 3-11 overall and 0-10 in the PSAC. Shippensburg improved to 7-8 and 3-7 in league play.

Edinboro would score the first goal of the match, as Sophie DePalma scored on a pass from Olivia Thomas at 23:57. DePalma's 25th goal marked the first lead for the Fighting Scots in ten games.

Unfortunately, Shippensburg netted the next eight goals. The Raiders would take a 6-1 lead at the half, then scored the first two goals of the second half for an 8-1 advantage ten minutes into the second half.

The Fighting Scots would score the next three goals to close the gap to 8-4. DePalma's second goal of the match accounted for the first at 14:46, and Stephanie Chido scored the second, assisted by Erin Gordon, at 13:09. Lindsey Brinkel scored with 10 minutes remaining for the third straight goal.

Edinboro was unable to close the gap, however. The two teams would trade goals twice. Kami Holt scored for Shippensburg and Hannah Fitzgerald countered for Edinboro at 6:39. Maddy Siejk scored her second goal of the contest for the Raiders just over three minutes later, and Mary Uplinger answered at the 1:39 mark to make it 10-6. T.J. Johnson closed out the scoring in the final minute for Shippensburg.

Shippensburg held a 41-22 advantage in shots. Allison Fugate led the Raiders with three goals as eight different players scored. Candace McDole continued her outstanding freshman campaign in goal, finishing with 18 saves. That boosts her season record for saves to 200. Kiki Brasher had 8 saves for Shippensburg.

???????Edinboro is back in action on Wednesday, April 25 looking to snap its ten-game losing streak against Mercyhurst, before closing the season under interim head coach Jenny Wirth on Saturday, April 28, hosting Lock Haven.
