Pondel, Smith Register Wins at Gator Invite

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Edinboro track & field team enjoyed a highly-successful afternoon while competing in the Allegheny Gator Classic on Friday. Four Fighting Scots competed, and all came away with first place finishes.

On the men's side Trae Smith came away with the championship in the javelin and Austin Pondel won the 5,000-meter run. Smith posted a mark of 53.29m on his third attempt in the javelin. Pondel registered a time of 14:59.61 in the 5,000 to win by nine seconds.

Gabby Schultz led the way for the women as the junior finished first in both the shot put and discus. She posted a mark of 14.08 meters in the shot put, with the winner on her last attempt. She won the discus with a distance of 47.58 meters, two meters better than the next closest competitor.

Jasmine Fehr also competed in the 1,500-meter run, winning by almost seven seconds with a time of 4:34.90.
