Cross Country/Track & Field Announces 2018 Recruiting Class

East Aurora's Molly McLaughlin is one of 19 students athletes is the Cross Country and Track & Field 2018 recruiting class.

EDINBORO, Pa. – Edinboro University track & field head coach Anne Cleary and cross country head coach Ryan Foster have announced the signing of 19 student-athletes as part of their 2018 recruiting class.

"We are very excited about this year's recruiting class," said Cleary. "On the men's side, we are bringing in a lot of distance-oriented talent. This is the focus area on our men's side and this class will ensure many more years of success on the track and cross country course.

Cleary, who is wrapping up her fifth season as head coach of the track team's and seventh overall with the program, guided the men's track & field team to a fourth place finish at the recent PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. That's the program's best finish since 1999.

During the cross country season, Foster, who has coached at Edinboro the last two years, led the men's team to second place finishes at the PSAC and Atlantic Region meets. The men ended the season finishing 29th at the NCAA Division II National Championships.

As for the women's class, Cleary thinks the incoming athletes will add to two talented teams. "Our women's class will help continue to build in our strongest areas," she said. "Success breeds success and we are very excited to be adding more talent to our middle distance, distance, and throws groups."

The women's track & field team finished in a tie for seventh at the recent PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and came in fourth at the indoor conference meet. Two freshmen also stood out at both events, receiving conference honors. Jasmine Fehr was named the Women's Track MVP at the outdoor meet, while Stefanie Parsons was named the Women's Most Outstanding Track MVP at the indoor meet and PSAC Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year.

During the cross country season, Foster, who was named the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region and PSAC Women's Coach of the Year, led the Fighting Scots to their third conference title in four years and14th Atlantic Region crown. A young team which featured five freshmen finished 19th at Nationals.

"Academically, this is an outstanding group of students for both genders," Cleary added. "We are very proud to be bringing in a group that we are sure will achieve both in the classroom and athletically."
