Five Fighting Scots Named to Don Hansen Football Gazette Super Region 1 Team

CLARION, Pa. — The Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Super Region 1 Team was released today, with five Edinboro players earning recognition. That included four first team honorees, which tied for the most first team selections with LIU-Post, Notre Dame, Slippery Rock, and West Chester.
 
Running back Walter Fletcher represented the offense on the first team, while strong safety Brandon Anderson, defensive tackle Derek Dorr, and cornerback Zuril Hendrick were named to the first team defense. Wide receiver Ta'Nauz Gregory earned a spot on the third team.
 
Notre Dame(Oh.) running back Jaleel McLaughlin was named both the Super Region 1 Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, while safety Lamont McPhatter of  California(Pa.) was selected as the Region Defensive Player of the Year. Lyrics Klugh, a defensive back from Fairmont State, was chosen the Special Teams Player of the Year and Notre Dame head coach Mike Jacobs was named Super Region 1 Coach of the Year.
 
The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.  Don Hansen's FB Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.
           
The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to the national ballot. The 2018 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be named later this month.
 
Hendrick and Fletcher add to a long list of accolades. Both were recently named to the D2Football.com All-America Team, earning honorable mention accolades. Hendrick has also been named a 2018 second team D2CCA All-American. They were both Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Super Region 1 honorees in 2017.Hendrick went on to earn first team Don Hansen Football Gazette All-American honors, while Fletcher was a second team All-American.
 
A 6'1" senior, Hendrick finished seventh on the team in tackles with 57, but his specialty was interceptions. After leading Division II in interceptions a year ago with nine, he finished with a team-leading seven this year. That figure ranked first in the PSAC and third in Division II in interceptions per game. He had a team-high 10 passes broken up, and ranked third in the PSAC and 11th nationally in passes defended. Hendrick also served on kick returns, averaging 22.2 yards on five kickoff returns and 5.9 yards on nine punt returns.

Hendrick's seventh pickoff came in his final career game vs. Kutztown. It was the 21st of his career, breaking the career record of 20 held by Chris Avery. He finished his career with 51 passes defended. He also broke the career record for return yards on interceptions with 344.

A Lindy's Sports College Football National 2018 Preview second team preseason selection and a College Football America 2018 Yearbook choice, Hendrick earned All-American honors as a junior and senior. He was a first team Don Hansen Football Gazette All-American selection in 2017 and was a first team Don Hansen Football Gazette Super Region I honoree. He was a 2018 first team D2CCA All-Super Region I honoree after earning second team honors in 2017.
 
Fletcher was one of 37 nominees for the 2018 Harlon Hill Trophy as the Division II College Football Player of the Year. He was named the PSAC West Offensive Player of the Year and earned first team All-PSAC West honors for the second straight year. In addition, he was a first team D2CCA All-Super Region 1 honoree for the second straight year.
 
A 5'10", 192 lb. running back, Fletcher ended the regular season ranked second in the PSAC and fourth in Division II in rushing. He finished the year with 1,624 yards rushing, the sixth-highest season total at Edinboro, on 266 carries, which is fifth in a season. He scored 17 TDs, tied for fourth in a season and ranking 13th in Division II. He ranked third in the PSAC and sixth in Division II in yards rushing, and was second and fifth, respectively, in yards per game.
 
In addition, the redshirt junior ranked third on the team in receiving with 30 catches for 249 yards. He led the PSAC and ranked eighth in Division II in all-purpose yards (170.27 ypg.). He finished the year with 1,873 all-purpose yards, which ranks fourth in a season. His 102 points scored is tied for fifth in a season.
 
Fletcher ran for over 100 yards in nine games and now has 19 career 100-yard games. His top effort was a school-record 328 yards on just 21 carries with 4 TDs vs. Seton Hill. The following week, he ran for 243 yards at Clarion. Over his last five games, he totaled 1,021 yards. He now holds five of the top 13 single-game rushing totals.
 
He also had Edinboro's first-ever 100/100 game with 111 yards rushing and 109 yards receiving vs. Gannon, catching a career-high 7 passes.  

A year ago, Fletcher set Edinboro's season rushing record with 1,740 yards with 18 TDs. From a career standpoint, he has 3,913 career rushing yards, good for third all-time at Edinboro. He ranks fourth in career rushing attempts with 632, and is just one touchdown rushing behind career leader Larry Jackson with 41 TDs. He has already set the school record with 288 career points. In addition, Fletcher's 93 career receptions is a school record by a running back. Finally, he ranks third in career all-purpose yards with 4,605.

Fletcher was named to a pair of preseason All-American teams after being a consensus All-American in 2017. He was selected to the Street & Smith's preseason All-American team and was a second team Lindy's preseason All-American. In 2017, he was a consensus All-American, earning second team Associated Press Division II All-American honors, along with second team D2CCA and Don Hansen Football Gazette accolades, and honorable mention D2Football.com honors. In addition, he earned first team D2CCA and Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Super Region 1 honors.

Anderson and Dorr were recently named to the D2CCA All-Super Region 1, with both earning second team recognition, along with their first team Football Gazette All-Super Region 1 selection.

Anderson formed two parts of an outstanding secondary along with Hendrick. The native of Willingboro, N.J. previously earned first team All-PSAC West honors for the second straight year.

The 6'1", 200 lb. redshirt junior led the team in tackles for the second year in a row from his strong safety position, totaling 101 tackles, including a team-high 49 solo. He ranked third in the PSAC in tackles per game. Anderson was tied for third on the team in tackles for losses (10.5), with a sack and an interception, along with 8 passes broken up and a pair of fumble recoveries.

In 2017, Anderson finished as the team's leading tackler with 98 tackles, ranking sixth in the PSAC in tackles per game (8.9). He had 5 tackles for losses, with 2 interceptions while tying for second in passes broken up (6).
Dorr enjoyed one of the finest seasons by an Edinboro interior lineman in many years. He previously earned first team All-PSAC West accolades after being named to the second team a year ago.

The 6'3", 297 lb. defensive tackle finished with 71 tackles, ranking third on the team. The Blasdell, N.Y. native had a team-leading 21.0 TFL and 10 sacks, ranking first in the PSAC and third in Division II in TFL and fourth and 15th, respectively, in sacks. He tied for fifth in a season in sacks at Edinboro, and ranked in the top ten in tackles for losses.

Dorr wrapped up his career with 169 tackles while starting 28 games. He totaled 39 TFL, along with 17 sacks, which is tied for ninth in the career records.
Gregory was the 2016 PSAC West Freshman of the Year, and in 2017 was a second team All-PSAC West choice as a return specialist. The 5'9" junior led Edinboro in receptions (50), yards receiving (796), and receiving TDs (10) while playing in ten games. The 10 TDs is tied for fifth in a season. Gregory led the PSAC in receiving TDs while ranking fifth in receptions per game.

He also once again excelled as a return specialist, averaging 26.2 yards on 13 kickoff returns and 10.8 yards on 10 punt returns. That includes a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Bloomsburg. It was the third kickoff return for a touchdown in his career, tying the school record.

Gregory enters his final season ranked third in career receptions (167), fourth in receiving yards (2,330), and second in receiving TDs with 28.
