SERIES HISTORY
  • All-Time Series: Edinboro leads 21-0-4
  • Last Meeting: September 21, 2019: Edinboro 2, Clarion 1
  • How It Happened: Edinboro scored a pair of first half goals seven minutes apart for a 2-1 win at Clarion. Edinboro remained undefeated against Clarion, improving the all-time record vs. the Golden Eagles to 21-0-4. Jessica Frank scored both of Edinboro's goals, her second and third of the season. The sophomore forward opened the scoring at 22:30, assisted by Brittnie Spithaler. Just over seven minutes later she gave the Fighting Scots a 2-0 lead, taking a crossing pass from Leah Czechowski and finding the bottom left corner of the net at 29:54. The score remained 2-0 at the half as Edinboro held an 11-6 edge in shots. Clarion would cut the lead in half at the 71:32 mark. Madison Spilko accounted for the goal, just the third of the season for the Golden Eagles. It came on one of only two shots for Clarion in the second half. Anna Voelker refused to allow the tying goal and would finish with four saves. Brynn Markley had 5 saves for Clarion. Edinboro ended the match with a 20-8 advantage in shots. 
MATCH STORYLINES
  • Edinboro will celebrate Cancer Awareness Night and will accept donations throughout the game.
  • Edinboro continued its winning streak Saturday night as they shut out Cal U, with a 3-0 victory on Senior Night. Edinboro is riding the finest stretch in school history, going 9-0-2 in the last eleven matches. That also coincides with the start of the PSAC season. The Fighting Scots are 9-2-2 overall.
  • Picked to finish sixth in the PSAC West in the coaches' preseason poll, Edinboro is currently in second place in the Western Division with 29 points, just one point behind Slippery Rock. Clarion is in eighth place with 6 points. Edinboro is ranked fifth in the latest United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region rankings. The Fighting Scots can clinch a spot in the PSAC Tournament with a win.     
  • Clarion has a 3-9-0 overall record and is 2-9-0 in the PSAC West. The Golden Eagles have won their last two matches, including a 2-0 shutout over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday night and a 2-1 victory over Cal U last Wednesday. Prior to that, Clarion had suffered nine straight losses.     
  • Edinboro is ranked fifth in the latest United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region rankings.   
  • Ten different players have scored goals for Edinboro. Brittnie Spithaler and Danielle Chatten lead the team with 5 goals and 5 assists for 15 points. Chatten has moved into 11th place in career goals with 22 goals, along with ranking 11th in career points (59) and tied for sixth in career assists (15). Rebecca Manns has 3 goals and 4 assists, and is now tied for sixth in career assists with 15.
  • Sophomore Anna Voelker has been in goal for every minute and has a 1.01 GAA with 5 shutouts, which ranks fourth in the PSAC. She is seventh in the PSAC in goals against average. She was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week after posting a pair of shutouts two weeks ago. She saw a streak of 371-plus minutes without allowing a goal come to an end at IUP.
  • Edinboro posted a 6-11-0 finish a year ago while fielding a young squad. Head coach Gary Kagiavas welcomes back nine starters for his 24th season as head coach.  Kagiavas has a 227-180-39 record, all as Edinboro's only head coach. The Fighting Scots have qualified for the PSAC Playoffs 11 times, with seven of those in the last nine years. Entering the season, Kagiavas ranked 24th among active Division II coaches in victories. In addition, he ranks second in wins among PSAC women's soccer coaches, exceeded only by West Chester's Betsy Anne Kempf-Townsley with 332 wins.  He has been selected the PSAC Coach of the Year three times (2001, '05, '07).
